筒井康隆の同名小説をアニメ化。主人公の真琴の声優には、数百人の中から選ばれた新人を起用し、フレッシュさを出した。過去を変えるごとに混乱を増す奇妙なラブ・ストーリー。
高校2年生の紺野真琴（声：仲里依紗）は、故障した自転車で遭遇した踏切事故をきっかけに、時間を跳躍する能力を得る。叔母の芳山和子（原沙知絵）にその能力のことを相談すると、それは『タイムリープ』といい、年頃の女の子にはよくあることだという。半信半疑の真琴だが、その力の使い方を覚えると、それを日常の些細な不満や欲望の解消に費やす。世界は私のもの！ バラ色の日々と思われたが、クラスメートの男子生徒、間宮千昭（石田卓也）や津田功介（板倉光隆）との関係に変化が。千昭から思わぬ告白を受けた真琴は狼狽のあまり、その告白をタイムリープで、強引に無かったことにしてしまう。やりなおされた「過去」。告白が無かったことになった「現在」。ところがその千昭に、同級生の友梨（垣内彩未）が告白。まんざらでもなさそうな千昭。さっきまで真琴に告白していたのに！ 面白くない真琴。その上、功介にあこがれる下級生、果穂（谷村美月）の相談まで受けてしまう。いつまでも3人の友達関係が続けばいいと考えていた真琴の望みは、タイムリープでかえってややこしく、厄介な状況に。真琴は果穂の恋を成就させるために、タイムリープで東奔西走するのだが……。

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (時をかける少女 Toki o Kakeru Shōjo) is a 2006 Japanese-animated science fiction romance film produced by Madhouse, directed by Mamoru Hosoda and written by Satoko Okudera. Released by Kadokawa Herald Pictures, the film is a loose sequel to the 1967 novel of the same name by Yasutaka Tsutsui and shares the basic premise of a young girl who gains the power of time travel, but with a different story and characters than the novel. Riisa Naka voices teenager Makoto Konno, who learns from Kazuko Yoshiyama, Makoto's aunt and the protagonist to the original story, that Makoto has the power to travel through time. Makoto begins using the time-leaps frivolously to fix problems.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was released on July 15, 2006 and received positive reviews. The film won numerous awards, including the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year. The English version was licensed and produced by Kadokawa Pictures U.S., with dubbing supplied by Ocean Productions, and released by Bandai Entertainment in 2008 and re-released by Funimation in 2016.
