アーティストの安室奈美恵が、ガールズR&BグループTLCのアルバム「TLC20～20thアニヴァーサリー・ヒッツ」（6月19日発売）の最新曲に参加することがわかった。
今回はTLCデビュー20周年記念作品ということで、4曲の全米No．1ヒットを始めとする彼らの代表曲を新たにレコーディングし収録。安室が参加したのは、95年に全米シングル・チャート7週連続1位を記録しTLC最大のヒットとなった「ウォーターフォールズ」の新ヴァージョンで、洋楽アーティストの楽曲への参加は初となる。
TLC with 安室奈美恵「ウォーターフォールズ（20th アニヴァーサリー・ヴァージョン）」と名付けられたこのコラボ楽曲に、安室はオリジナル版でTLCのメンバー、レフト・アイが歌っていたパートとサビを新たに歌唱。オリジナルを元に歌詞やメロディをアレンジして、ラップや歌を交えた安室らしい歌声が注目される。
またコラボレーションの経緯は、2000年代初めに遡る。当時安室の楽曲をプロデュースしたダラス・オースティンは、TLCの代表作を手掛けたメイン・プロデューサーであり、当時そのダラスの交際相手だったのがチリ。ダラスの自宅を訪れる機会があった安室は、実際にチリと対面してTLCとの“縁”が生まれ共演が実現した。
今回レコーディングでの対面は適わなかったものの、写真撮影のためロサンゼルスでTLCの2人と安室の対面が実現。互いにリスペクトを持つ両アーティストはすぐに意気投合。特に久しぶりの再会となるチリは、自ら安室に走り寄るなどの喜びようで、終始和やかな笑顔での撮影となった。
安室についてT・ボズは、「最初に（この新ヴァージョンを）聴いた時は興奮したわ。私たちの代表曲である『ウォーターフォールズ』に新しい息吹を与えてくれた。ナミエが参加してくれたことを誇りに思うわ」と絶賛。チリも「久しぶりにナミエにあえて嬉しかった。10年以上前に会った時、将来何か出来たらいいな、って思ってたから、共演が実現してとても喜ばしく思うわ。（楽曲は）彼女がアレンジしてくれたところ、すごく気に入ってる」と感動を伝えた。
それに対し安室も、「彼女達の20周年という素敵なタイミングに、ご一緒できてすごく光栄です」と喜びを寄せた。
