大正三年(1914年)、大正噴火が起こる。
その時この鳥居は埋没した。
人々は一旦は掘り起こそうとしたそうだが、
この噴火を後世に記録するためこのままにしたそうだ。
58名が亡くなった。
多くの家屋も焼失した。
生存された方々も住む場所を失い、
移住を余儀なくされた方もいたそうだ。
そしてこの噴火は桜島と大隅半島(東側の半島)を陸続きにした。
110年前、起こったことだ。
今も語り継がれ、おいどんの耳にも入った。
そしてこれを読んだおはんさぁたちのお耳様にも。
In 1914, during the Taisho era, the Taisho eruption occurred. At that time, this torii gate was buried. People initially attempted to excavate it, but decided to leave it as it was to record the eruption for future generations. Fifty-eight people died. Many homes were also destroyed. Those who survived lost their homes, and some were forced to relocate. This eruption also connected Sakurajima with the Osumi Peninsula (the peninsula on the east side) by land.
This happened 110 years ago. It is still passed down and has reached my ears, and now, it has reached yours as well.
