Regarding cherry blossoms, the flower buds come in the early summer when the leaves grow thickly. And then, from late summer to fall they sleep for a while. After a certain period of coldness in winter, they wake up, and this is called dormancy breaking "休眠打破" which means it is a type of awakening from sleep to prepare blooming in spring. They need to experience coldness before blooming. Therefore, a warm winter will actually cause a delay of blooming. 

 

How amazing!! How great it sounds. I like the powerful sound of the word "休眠打破" I've never known the word at all.
