口座、取引、顧客、説明、報告、責任、理由、判断材料、占める...
もともとは ac ～に対して count 数える
つまり、「数を数えて報告する」という原義を持ちます
そこから
open a bank account
銀行口座を作る
I’m glad to get that customer's account.
あのお客さんと取引できて嬉しい。
give a detailed account of the accident
その事故に関する詳しい説明をする
There is no account for tastes.
味の好みに理由は無し。
taking it into accout
それを考慮に入れると
Imported cars account for seven percent.
輸入車は7％を占める。
こんな使い方もあります。
Some of the victims are still unaccounted for.
犠牲者の中には未だに行方不明のかたもいます。
