I am going to show you my old house in Uji Kyoto.
My American friend Linda might see this blog, so I write it in English.
This is very Japanese house. My friends often said to me
"This house is like my grandma's house!"
This is front side of my house.
There are steps. My nephew who is 6 years old loves to play
around here. We do not have light, so you need to be careful at night!
This is an entrance.
I do not like color of door and bars. We will paint them someday.
Door phone is not working!
There is no mail box!
So every mail person and delivery person knock the door and shout!
(Yes, I know I need fix as soon as possible!)
This is porch.
It is still messy, so I show you those very nostalgic lights.
This room will be used for English lesson.
My husbands family reformed floors for it. Thank you![]()
Now I am using PC here.
Stairs to the 2nd floor.
On the 2nd floor there is bed room and Tatami room.
I am using Tatami room as a closet.
Back to the 1st floor.
From English room, you can go through a narrow wooden
passageway along the edge of a house facing the garden.
Next to this, there are 2 Tatami rooms.
Those were able to trouble us.
As you know now Japanese life style is getting
like western one. So we use table and chairs, instead of
CHABUDAI and ZABUTON . There are non or just one
Tatami room in modern Japanese houses.
We do not have Tatami room in Tokyo, so our funitures are
not match for Tatami room. If we place table direct to Tatami,
Tatami will get some damage from it.
Finally, we decide to get wooden floor mat on Tatami.
According to Chinese FENG SHUI (風水), covering Tatami is not good.
But we made much of convenience.
Next to Wooden Tatami room, there is real Tatami room.
This place is going to be a guest room! Please come!
Next to those rooms, there is a kitchen.
This kitchen is very old too.
But it is nice to have many space to store thigs.
I got new rice cocker and microwave with oven..
Bathroom and wash room was renovated.
Come and visit us!
