路の端に 花咲き初めし 紫陽花を 班目(まだら)に照らし 陽は夏を呼ぶ

昨日は都内夏の気配なり
時に曇れど時に明るき陽射しあり
昼どき町の路地裏を歩けば傍らに紫陽花の小さき鉢植あり
夏を思はす陽は花を班目に照らしたり
There was a presence of summer in Tokyo yesterday.
It was cloudy at times but the sun was bright at other times.
As I was walking down a back alley in town at noon, I came across a potted hydrangea.
The summer-like sun shone brightly on the flower.
