豌豆(エンドウ)の 人知れずして 花咲きて 人知れずして 実を成すならむ

豌豆は遠きいにしへの大宛国が故郷と聞く

中央アジアの平原より幾百世代をかけて我が国に来たると聞く

先祖は血生臭き戦を幾度となく見てきたらむ

今は静かに咲きて夏には人知れず実をなさむ


When I took a walk in the suburbs of my city yesterday, pea flowers were blooming in a small field.

Native to Fergana in Central Asia, this flower must have seen hundreds of bloody wars before it was introduced to Japan.

But now the pea is quietly waiting for the flowers to bear the nut in summer.
