This is a progress report about Yoshi’s potty training. I bought his training chair in July (oh, that long ago…) in a hope that summer is a suitable season to start, but didn’t train him seriously because he had no interest in it (he just wanted to play with his “new toy”). Time has passed quickly while we weren't using our new item, then I resumed to take it seriously in late September… and now. Saying the conclusion first, he has never done anything on his potty chair (all he is doing is to sit and swing with my toilet songs..), but there are also some positive changes.

<Facts I know>

Yoshi stays dry for periods of two hours or longer during the day.

He is always up on his legs when he pee- pees or poo-poos except he is on his stroller. (I spent several days observing Yoshi without his diapers and realized his inclination in September.) Especially for poo-poo, he wants to stand firm by holding something.

He frowns when he poo-poos. (But I haven’t caught his signs of pee-pee yet.)

He never complains that he is wet in dirty diapers.

Good Signs>

He used to see his potty chair as his new toy, but now he understands it’s for sitting and doing something, as a result, he is willing to follow my instructions.

He can sit on and rise from/ get out of a potty chair on his own, both on the floor style and on the toilet style alike. Now it’s quite natural for him to do so because he is on the potty almost twice a day.

He seems interested in the potty chair and toilet since he’s seen his favorite video clip of potty training many times. From this video, he’d learned the wordちっちーand the basic rules such as knocking the door before entering the bathroom, and washing hands after the training.

He sometimes pee-pees when he is taking a bath, saying “Oh”, while seeing and touching his bird.

When he pee-pees soon after he finishes bathing and still all naked, he always takes his mom to the pool he made and shows her that the floor is wet, pointing at it. (I often wipe my body after wiping Yoshi’s and letting him go.) This means he has come to know something is pouring out of his own body.

<Things I need to know>

I should find out when is appropriate to let him go to the bathroom. (Maybe it’s meaningless however I try if it’s not the right timing.) In order to do so, I need to catch his sign of pee-pee and rethink about our daily schedule.

I think this will be a long voyage, however, let’s enjoy our endeavor, Yoshi!
