個室って英語でSingle roomって言うけど
病院だとSingle roomという言い方ももちろん
するけど、良く使われる表現が別にあるんです。
なんでそういうかは分からないけど、
Side Room
とも言うのよねぇ。
調べたけど辞書による説明は見つからなくて、
でもいろんな病院の説明書きには大体同じこと
が書いてあって、あるイギリスの病院の一部を
抜粋すると
Side rooms are normally used to nurse patients with particular clinical needs. For example, they may have an infection that could spread if they were nursed on the main ward, or they may need more frequent visitors which could be disruptive to the rest of the ward.
結局意味は個室のことなのよね。
なんでそういうかは結局分からなかったけど
療養上の理由がある場合に入る部屋みたいな。
今まで患者さんに「side room」って言って
それ何？って聞かれたことはないのでオージー
はみんな意味を分かってるみたい。
