Makoto Inagaki has done enough in the second qualifying session to clinch the top spot from Chalermpol Polamai in the SuperSports 600cc category to start Race 1 and Race 2 on pole in the Final Round of the PETRONAS FIM Asian Grand Prix that is being held at Zhuhai International Circuit, China this weekend.

Hamaguchi was one of a few riders to better their Friday times, finishing the Saturday qualifying session second with the time of 1:39.228s and will park his bike next to Inagaki. Both PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Thailand riders, Chalermpol and Decha Kraisart will start third and fourth on the grid with an improved time of 1:39.535s and 1:39.598s respectively. Meanwhile, Fuad who is in contention for the title chase will start fifth on the grid with the time of 1:40.199s.

Inagaki who is the second rider of the team is glad that both Hamaguchi and he will start first and second on the grid. “Our objective this weekend is to ensure Hamaguchi takes home the coveted crown. Even though, I am no longer in contention for the title chase but I also want to stay competitive for the final round. I have an entire new setting for this weekend race and hopefully all things will run on smoothly. It would be great if both of us get to step on the podium for Race 1 and Race 2,” said Inagaki who is currently 14th in the standings with 29 points.

5-timed Champion, Hamaguchi who tops the overall Championship standings with 141 points knows that a podium finish is the best option for taking the crown in style. “Even though, there is no team order for Inagaki to make way for me, I am confident for a fruitful outing tomorrow. As long as I finish ahead of Fuad, I will take home the 2008 SuperSports 600cc overall trophy. The two Thai riders, namely Decha and Chalermpol will be there to challenge me but I am positive to end the season on a triumphant note,” said Hamaguchi who has 4-point advantage over Fuad who is second in the standings with 137 points.

Local Chinese rider, Huang Shizhao managed to retain his sixth overall position on the grid with the time he set today (1:40.119s) while Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman will park his bike next to Huang in seventh placing (1:40.679). 2005 and 2006 Champion of All Japan Road Race JS1000 series, Shinichi Ito managed to improve his lap time from 1:42.273s to 1:41.061s will start eighth on the grid.
