When I started playing drums, Pearl Drums Japan launched the 4 ply maple w/ 4 ply maple reinforcement ring shell as a Classic Maple (MR) series. This is Masters Custom. If this series hadn't been released, I might have bought a Yamaha System Drum Maple Custom. So I'll be with my 4 ply maple shell for a lifetime. The Custom Z (CZX) series of bird's-eye maple finish was sold as a standard maple shell ZRX, Z Type Maple in Japan, and all finishes could be selected. Bird's-eye maple finish was sold as ZC. For snare drum only, 8 ply 10mm ZH, 6 ply 7.5mm ZM and 4 ply 5mm ZL shell could be selected. At the same time, the Professional MLX Series is sold in Japan as the Standard Maple MX Series, including lacquer finish, A 4 ply 5mm shell could also be ordered.
