The league's saddest quarterback fight remains its smallest. To another full preseason game to judge Rex Grossman and John Beck, Washington Redskins mind coach Mike Shanahan isn't any nearer to picking (or at best naming openly) a beginning quarterback.
Thursday evening from the Ravens, neither quarterback did almost anything to stick out over the other, and possibly more remarkably, neither did much to harm themselves, either. Shanny states he could hold back until yesterday the growing season opener to title a starter.
Grossman got the beginning Thursday evening and responded pretty positively. His final amounts will not blow hair back -- 8 of 15, 112 yards along with a touchdown -- but he performed against a great beginning defense that wasn't reluctant whatsoever to blitz. Chase stated it appeared as if the Ravens were playing the "engage eight" Madden defense against Grossman.
He especially shined within the two-minute drill. With an 80-yard drive right before the half, Grossman went 6?of 8?for 80 yards along with a touchdown. He even obtained the touchdown two times. Before Grossman hit Santana Moss for that TD on third and 15, he'd hit Moss a few gamers earlier, but Moss could not complete the issue ultimately zone.
Matt Bowen from the National Football Publish stored track of Rex Thursday evening, too, and offered this critique to accompany the praise:
He is not great within the pocket?aand you can observe that. Working versus. edge pressure (area of the overload blitz schemes in Baltimore), Grossman needs to find methods to step-up within the pocket, provide the ball and steer clear of retreating with defenders in the face. He is not going to provide you with lots of movement within the pocket (or perhaps in the boot game) which is one thing the 'Skins could possibly get from Beck.
If you are searching for John Beck analysis, I'd lead you to Jon Gruden, via Serta Steinberg in the Washington Publish. Steinz put together a listing of Beck-related Gruden quotes from the overall game, by which Gruden causes it to be pretty obvious that he's around the Beckwagon. Here's one sample, from the play where Beck accomplished simply handing the ball to Tim Hightower:
"That states a great deal to me, not just about Hightower but John Beck. He arrived here and also got this offense going. Three plays, 80 yards, touchdown ... Phenomenal run by Hightower, however i just felt John Beck arrived there and shot this place active. You saw another job within the play-calling, they required the shot, the thing is the more powerful arm of the John Beck, the thing is a try route, you return having a deep pass left, it creates the defense for that running game."
So, we are virtually in the same location i was before Thursday night's game. But that place, if you are a Redskins fan, maybe does not look badly as previously.
