I have been applying for jobs this week and today I applied for one that required an "assessment test" in order to submit the application. That's already bad enough, but what made it worse was that the tests were cognitive ability and personality tests under the guise of them being "problem-solving" and "how you work" tests...
I'm sorry but the tests were clearly ableist AF and I'm pretty livid about it. I swear these corrupt companies say that they can't or won't legally discriminate against anyone but then pull this shit. The problem-solving questions were straight up hard math questions, vague word riddles and a synonym/antonym test and you had ten minutes to answer as many as you could. I'm sorry, but it's clear as day that they are overtly trying to weed out candidates with learning disabilities, and let's say that I don't like it at all.
Needless to say, I almost HOPE that I won't be considered for a position there because I think the concept of this assessment test thing is total bullshit. I hope people catch on, call out the companies that do this, and sue sue SUE because truly they deserve it if they're knowingly evading the law about not being allowed to discriminate against people with disabilities. If it were my way, I would leave the shittiest review I can possibly think of towards the company so they can get called out for who they are.
Well the law is the LAW and these companies don't want to deal with a portion of the population that is considered an inconvenience to them, so then they'll start manipulating the system in ordered to not get sued or caught breaking the law.
Don't want to hire a disabled candidate? Reject them as "not a good cultural fit".
Want to fire a disabled candidate? Terminate them with "not a good fit" and lie that it's "company restructuring" and not personal.
Want to filter out neurodivergent candidates? Require them to take personality/skills tests that secretly are cognitive ability and social skills tests that are extremely difficult for them to take and will guarentee to weed them out.
My god, the list goes on and on and ON but it's fucked up.
Rant over but ugh I've been noticing it more and more when applying for jobs and I can't stop feeling icky about it. Not to even MENTION Indeed's bullshit "required" tests....not even going to get into that today.
Anyways, fuck this crap.
