Use this guide to update your Sensation to the appropriate base firmware, and after doing that, read on to find out how you can flash the new leaked firmware on your Sensation.

Compatibility

This ROM and the guide below are compatible only and only with the HTC Sensation. It’s not compatible with any other device. Check your device model in Settings » About phone.

Pre-Installation Requirements

  • Sufficiently charged battery, at least 50% is recommended.
  • This procedure will wipe all your apps, data and settings (but it will NOT touch your SD cards, so don’t worry about those). Backup your Apps and important data — bookmarks, contacts, SMS, APNs (internet settings), etc. This Android backup guide would help you.

How to Install 3.32.401.5 Update on HTC Sensation

  1. Important! You need have the latest bootloader — meant for the ICS — in order to get your Sensation to work/boot. You should visit this page to get the boot file (or called firmware file: PG58IMG.zip). You got to check your CID and MID using the tools given there and then download the PG58IMG.zip file from the many versions listed there, choosing one which matches your phone’s CID and MID. It’s a little bit tricky, but it’s just a matter of carefully reading all the info there, and then following the instructions exactly as stated. After you’ve downloaded the PG58IMG.zip for your phone, proceed to step 2 below; you will be using the PG58IMG.zip file in step 11 below.
  2. Download the Ice Cream Sandwich Rom file from the original development page → Download Link
  3. Transfer the downloaded zip files from step 1 and step 2 to the SD card on the HTC Sensation.
  4. Turn off the phone.
  5. Start Clockworkmod recovery by simultaneously pressing and holding the Volume down button and the Power button. From the resulting HBOOT menu, press Volume down to select the Recovery option and press the Power button to activate it. Inrecovery, use Volume buttons to navigate and Power button to select.
  6. [Optional] Perform a Nandroid Backup of your existing ROM, so that you can always restore it from recovery if something does not work out with this rom. To perform a backup, select Backup and Restore –> On the next screen, Select Backup again.
  7. Select “wipe data/factory reset”, then select “Yes” on the next screen to confirm data wipe.
  8. Now select “install zip from sdcard”, then select “choose zip from sdcard”. Scroll to the update file on the sdcard (from step 2) and select it.
  9. Now confirm installation by selecting “Yes – Install ______.zip” on the next screen. The update will start installing.
  10. Important!. Do not reboot/restart the phone. instead, Power it Off. After the installation is complete, select “go back” and then Power Off the phone.
  11. Flashing the PG58IMG.zip bootloader/firmware file (from step 1):
    1. Now is the time to flash the bootloader/firmware file from fastboot mode. Boot (start the phone) into bootloader mode to install the PG58IMG.zip bootloader/firmware file you downloaded in step 1. For this, press and hold Volume down and hit Power key, hold the Volume Down key until bootloader screen shows up.
    2. Now select fastboot to enter fastboot mode where the phone will automatically check for the PG58IMG.zip file on sdcard and on finding one, will ask you to whether Update the phone with it.
    3. Select Yes when it asks to update the phone. And watch it as it readies your phone for the treat called Ice Cream Sandwich.
    4. After the PG58IMG.zip has been flashed, rebooting the phone should be fine. Btw, some users have reported that only after they flashed the PG58IMG.zip 2 times, their phone booted successfully. So, don’t be shy of flashing the PG58IMG.zip file again if required.
    5. After it’s done, simply select the Reboot option from the bootloader mode itself to restart the device.
    6. (It’s very important that you downloaded the right PG58IMG.zip file in step 1 above from that page linked there.
  12. Well, it should work perfectly okay now but in case it doesn’t, do let us know.

Your HTC Sensation is now running stock Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.3 with HTC’s Sense 3.6 overlay. If you do try it out, share your thoughts on your experience in the comments below.

By installing a firmware on your HTC Android device, or any other device for that matter, you can easily reset your device back to stock, and with that, fixing any issues with the device. This also helps you to unroot (removes root access) and uninstall any custom recovery like TWRP, CWM, Cyanogen, etc. Whatever be the issue, installing the firmware — whether using RUU or ZIP — fixes the device, and thus firmware is pretty much a must-have tool and download for you. To find a firmware for your device, do search our site as we have covered firmwares for most of the HTC Android devices.

Let’s now discuss how one can install an HTC firmware, which basically comes in two formats: EXE and ZIP. HTC firmware is also called RUU — short for ROM Update Utility — and it comes it both EXE and ZIP formats. We’ve covered installation guide below for each of EXE and ZIP firmware RUU file.

How to Install RUU EXE File

Step 1: Download the firmware in EXE format for your HTC device on your PC.

Step 2: Connect your device to your PC using a USB cable. Make sure before this step tat the device has more than 50% battery.

Step 3: If the device is not recognized by the PC, ensure you have HTC Drivers installed and then disconnect and reconnect the device from the USB cable.

Step 4: Once the device is properly recognized on the PC, browse to the HTC ROM that you downloaded. Double-click on the file to launch the installation wizard.

Step 5: Follow all of the on-screen instructions shown on your PC.

Step 6: Once the installation is complete, click Finish in the Wizard and the device will reboot.

That’s it. Let your HTC device reboot fully, and then your device will all back to factory state, all issues fixed, in back to stock condition.

Note: If you run into any issue under the above method, like HTC’s update wizard failing to recognize your device, then close the wizard window, and try the same thing after booting your device into fastboot mode (could be download mode for newer HTC devices).

How To Use Ruu Htc

  • From a powered off state, hold Volume Down while powering on the device.
  • Use the volume buttons to scroll to Fastboot option (Download Mode, if you see this option) and then press the Power button to select it.
  • Connect the device to the PC while in Fastboot mode (Download mode, where available) and run the ROM installation wizard again on your PC.

To exit Download mode manually, use the volume keys to navigate to REBOOT and press the Power button to select it.

How to Install RUU ZIP File

Step 1: Download the firmware file in ZIP format for your HTC device and save it on PC. For ease, rename this file to rom.zip (or, if you don’t wish to rename it, be sure to use its full name in the commands below in place of rom.zip that we have used).

Step 2: Download ADB and Fastboot drivers. Extract this zip file into a new folder. Let’s call it adb folder for the purpose of this guide. You must have htc_fastboot file in this folder.

Mode

Step 3:Boot your HTC device into Fastboot mode (or Download mode, for newer HTC devices).

Step 4:Connect your device to the PC using a USB cable. Make sure you have installed HTC drivers. In case your PC fails to recognize or detect your HTC device, then you need to install or re-install HTC drivers. Connect using USB cable again thereafter. Doing a PC restart is a good thing too after installing drivers.

Step 5: Once the device is properly recognized on the PC, open a command window inside the folder where your RUU .zip is saved. For this, simply double click on the command prompt file in your adb folder.

Step 6: Now bring the device into RUU mode. Issue the following command in the command window:

Step 7: Now flash the RUU ZIP file with the command given below (you can copy paste):

→ If your RUU ZIP file is not rom.zip, then use the name it got in the command above in place of rom.zip.

Step 8: Let the ROM install now. Most likely, you will get an error at the end of the installation. It’s normal to get such error. It could be: “pre-hboot update: please flush immediately”.

Do this. You have to be in RUU mode (see step 6 above), and then re-flash the ROM ZIP file again (see step 7 above).

Step 9: This time installation will complete and your device will have the firmware installed. Once it’s done your HTC will automatically reboot.

Done.
