Prefer and would rather
【Ａ】Prefer to do and prefer doing
You can 'prefer to (do)' or 'prefer -ing' to say what you prefer in general.
あなたが一般的に好む事を言う時、あなたは'prefer to (do)'又は'prefer -ing'を使用できます。
□ I don't like cities. I prefer to live in the country. or I prefer liveing in the country.
私は街に住みたくないです。 私は田舎に住みたいです（住むことを好みます）。
Sutudy the differenses in structure after prefer. We say:
preferの後の構造の違いを勉強しましょう
I prefer / something / to something else.
私は他の何かより、何かが良いです（好みます）。
I prefer/ doing something / to doing something else.
私は他の何かをするより、何かをしたいです（する方を好みます）。
but I prefer/ to do something / rather than (do) something else.
私は他の何かを（する）よりむしろ、何かがしたいです（する方を好みます）。
□ I prefer this coat to the coat you were wearing yesterday.
私はあなたが昨日着ていたコートより、このコートが良いです（好みます）。
□ I prefer driveing to travelling by train.
私は電車で旅行するより、運転が良いです（車を好みます）。
but □ I prefer to drive rather than travel by train.
私は電車で旅行するよりむしろ、運転の方が良いです（車を好みます）。
□ Sarah prefers to live in the country rather than (live) in a city.
サラは街に住むよりむしろ、田舎で住みたい（住むことを好みます）。
Note to self:preferの後ろに名詞or動名詞・現在分詞がきたら→toでつないで、to不定詞の場合は→rather than（比較級）になる?でいいのかな？
【Ｂ】Would prefer (I'd prefer.....)
We use would prefer to say what somebody wants in a specific situation (not in general)
私たちは特定の状況で誰かに求めることを言う時は、would prefer を使用します。(一般的ではない時）
□ 'Would you prefer tea or coffee?' 'Coffee,please.'
紅茶かコーヒーはどうですか（何方が好みですか）。
We say 'would prefer to do somethig' (not usually would prefer doing)
私たちは'would prefer to do something'と言う ('would prefer doing'は日常ではありません）
□ 'Shaｌｌ we go by train?' I'd prefer to drive.' (not I'd prefer driving)
電車で行きませんか？ 私は運転が良いです（好みます）。（Ｉ'd prefer drivingではありません）
□ I'd prefer to stay at home tonaight rather than go to the cinema.
私は映画に行くよりむしろ、今夜家にいたいです（好みます）。
Note to self:would preferは特定の状況で誰かにしたい事（好む事）を聞く時には'Would you prefer...'を使い、何かしたい事（好む事）を言う時は、'would prefer to do'を使う。'would prefer -ing'は日常的には使わない。
【Ｃ】Would rather (I'd rathe......)
Would rather (do) = would prefer (to do). We use would rather + infinitive (without to).
Would rather (do)は、would prefer (to do)と同じです。私たちは'would rather' + 不定詞を使います（toなしで）。

□ 'Shall we go by train?' 'I'd prefer to drive.' 'I'd rather drive.'(not to drive)
電車で行きませんか。私はむしろ運転が良いです。(to driveではない）
□ 'Would you rather have tea or coffee?' 'Coffee,please.'
紅茶にしますか、それともコーヒーにしますか？ コーヒーを下さい。
The negative is 'I'd rather not (do something).'
否定では'I'd rather not.'です。
□ I'm tired. I'd rather not go out this evening, if you don't mind.
私は疲れています。私は、もしあなたが嫌でなければむしろ、今夜外出したくありません。
□ 'Do you want to go out this evening?' 'I'd rather not.'
あなたは今夜外出したいですか？私はしたくありません。
We say 'would rather do something than do something else.'
私たちは、言います’他の何かをするよりもむしろ、何かをしたい’。
□ I'd rather stay at home tonaight than go to the cinema.
私はシネマに行くよりむしろ、家にいたい。
Note to self:would prefer → ｔo do で、would rather → 不定詞（動詞原型）でtoは使わない。would ratherの否定形は、would rather notになる。Ｂ（than 以下）よりむしろ、Ａを好む場合は、'Would you rather do something than do something'を使う。
'Would you rather have tea.....'の例文は、'Would you prefer tea.....'と同じように特定の状況で誰かにしたい事（好む事）を聞く時に使用するでおそらくいいよね？
【Ｄ】I'd rather somebody did something
We say 'I'd rather you did something.'(not I'd rather you do). For exaｍple:
私たちは言う’私はむしろ、あなたに何かをしてほしい’。例へ
□ 'Who's going to drive, you or me?' 'I'd rather you drove.'(= I would prefer this)
あなたとわたし、誰が運転しますか？ 私はむしろあなたに運転してほしい。（＝私はこれがいいです。）
□ 'Jack says he'll repair your bike tomorrow, OK?' 'I'd rather he did it today.'
ジャックが明日あなたのバイクを修理しますと言ってます。私はむしろ、今日修理してほしい。
□ Are you going to tell Anna what hppened, or would you rather I told her?
あなたは起こった事をアンナに伝えるつもりですか？それとも私が彼女に伝えてる方が良いですか（好みますか）。
In this structure we use the past (dorove,did etc),but the meaning is present not past.
この構造の中で私たちは、過去形を使います（dorove,didなど）。しかしこの意味は現在であって過去ではありません。

私は今晩御飯を作りたい。
□ I'd rather you made dinner now. (not I'd rather you make)
私はむしろ、あなたに晩御飯を作ってほしい。
I'd rather you didn't(do something)= I'd prefer you not to do it.
私はむしろ、あなたにしてほしくない＝私はあなたにしてほしくない（好まない）。
□ I'd rather you didn't tell anyone what I said.
私はむしろ、あなたに私が言ったことを誰かに伝えてほしくない。
□ 'Are you going to tell Anna what happened?' 'No. I'd rather she didn't know.'
あなたは起きた事をアンナに伝えるつもりですか？いいえ、私は彼女に知ってほしくありません。
□ 'Shall I tell Anna what happened?' 'I'd rather you didn't.'
アンナに起きたことを伝えましょうか？ いいえ、私は伝えてほしくありません。
Note to self: 誰かに何かをしてほしい時は、'would rather somebody did'を使うが、意味は過去ではなく現在である。ratherの否定はrather notだが、【Ｄ】で学んだ構造（誰かに何かしてほしい）では、'would rather somebody didn't'となる。これも現在である。
