Well, as we all know, a movie is never as good as the book it's based on (At least, I personally, nor have those I know, found anything to defy this rule. So, we all must have expected that the movie would have done something to make the series seem worse than it was; this was especially true to people who haven't read the books.
As far as the movie itself goes, you can't complain too much. It may not have stuck to the form of the books, it may not have had great special effects, and maybe not all of the characters were true-to-form. However, one thing that no one can deny was that the movie wasn't a complete disappointment, and unless you're one of those fanatics who can't realize that it couldn't be everything that books was, you have to admit that it was at least slightly fulfilling.
The cast of the movie was suburb, for the most part. The music flowed with the movie. The basic plot of the stories had been covered, and the passion that some of the actors (Robert, especially) was there. Some other characters, such as Carlisle, were everything and more than we could have expected them to be, there was the elements of humor and romance, and no one could have walked away completely unsatisfied.
