Qingyuan, the hometown of drifting in China, is a treasure of tourism in Guangdong Province, where the perfect combination of natural scenery and romantic culture thrives. Drifting tourism has always been the vivid and compelling “golden signboard” of Qingyuan. Among them, the Guangdong (Qingyuan·Qingxin) Drifting Cultural Tourism Season has been held for 21 years since its inception.

On April 30, the press conference for the 2024 Guangdong·Qingyuan Drifting Cultural Tourism Season was held in Guangzhou. Deputy Secretary of the Qingyuan Municipal Party Committee and Mayor Wen Wenxing, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism Zeng Xiaofeng, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau Lin Ying, Deputy Mayor of Qingyuan Municipal People’s Government Su Jindan, and Deputy Secretary and District Chief of Qingxin District Huang Guojie attended the conference and answered questions from reporters.

According to the briefing at the press conference, the 2024 Guangdong·Qingyuan Drifting Cultural Tourism Season will be held in Qingyuan from April to October this year. Qingyuan will invite a hundred couples from around the world to experience the sweet journey of Qingyuan for free and will organize activities such as the Guangdong Drifting Competition and the National Dragon Boat Open. A series of drifting tourism preferential measures, including ticket discounts of less than 52% and free admission for Northeast “Little Frozen Pear,” will also be introduced. Various major water attractions will also host colorful water-themed tourism activities.

Mayor Wen Wenxing stated that the mountains and rivers are the natural genes of Qingyuan, and green is the city’s foundation. The beautiful mountains, waters, and unique local customs are the shining business cards of Qingyuan in the Greater Bay Area. Qingyuan will take advantage of this opportunity to develop a variety of tourism products such as sightseeing, health preservation, leisure, vacation, sports events, and car races to attract more tourists to Qingyuan and accelerate the development of Qingyuan tourism into a hundred-billion-level industry. Seizing this opportunity, Qingyuan will showcase its distinctive, high-quality, and warm agricultural, cultural, and tourism products and provide standardized, humanized, and high-quality tourism services to attract tourists to Qingyuan, understand Qingyuan, and fall in love with Qingyuan.

As the “longevity town” of Qingyuan, this event also sends best wishes to new couples worldwide. With a population of over 4.5 million and more than 430 centenarians, Qingyuan has been awarded the title of “China’s Longevity Town” by the Chinese Geriatrics Society and Gerontology Society, making it the second county (city, district) in Guangdong Province to receive this honor. Through a series of interactive activities such as visiting centenarians, hundreds of new couples will be blessed by the centenarians to live a hundred years together.

Qingyuan, as an excellent tourist city in China, has 45 A-level scenic spots, ranking first in Guangdong Province. The municipal government has invited multiple Olympic champions as spokespersons for the drifting brand. They will showcase Qingyuan’s distinctive agricultural industry, branded intangible cultural heritage products, and local specialties during the drifting competition on May 20. Through on-site display areas and online markets, innovative consumption scenes will be created to allow tourists to deeply experience Qingyuan’s high-quality agricultural and intangible cultural heritage products.

In recent years, Qingyuan has continuously promoted the transformation and upgrading of the city’s tourism industry, aiming to become a destination for tourism and vacation in the Greater Bay Area. By fully leveraging its advantages of being close to the Greater Bay Area, having the best ecological conditions, and having the largest development space, Qingyuan is striving to create a new pattern of hundred-billion-level industrial development and move towards the goal of becoming a tourist destination in the Greater Bay Area.
