こんばんは！
今日は、2回目の 「Special Day 8
」 
紹介する写真は、大型書店の英語コーナーにおいて
多くは 「上段」 あるいは 「下段」 で、ときたま出会える辞書。
Wikipedia によると、1828年、ノア・ウェブスターさん (当時70歳) が
およそ7万の見出し語を収めた2巻組 (20ドル・2500部発行)
『アメリカ英語辞典』 (ADEL) を世に出したのが、初版のようです。
現在、NHK連続テレビ小説で放送されている
『花子とアン』 でも登場しました
先月、鑑賞してきた 「村岡花子と赤毛のアンの世界展」
（ブログ記事はこちらです ←クリック で一瞬） で、
目にした際、これはもう近いうちに買うタイミングだ！ と感じました。
「WEBSTER'S THIRD NEW INTERNATIONAL DICTIONARY」
（もっと、鮮明に写せるとは思いますが、ご了承ください。）
オンラインで、「語彙・画像」 の検索ができる時代。
しかし、 「Unabridged (最詳版) の大辞典」 を、いつかは欲しかった。
① More than 476,000 entries 「見出し語」
② Over 140,000 etymologies detail word origins 「語源」
③ The largest, most comprehensive American Dictionary 「広範囲な」
まさか自分が、 「辞書を引くこと・読むこと」 に夢中になり
わくわくしながら、こんなに立派な辞書を手にする日がくるなんぞ
まったくもって、想像できませんでした…
これからは、未知の単語に出会っても心強いですし
この辞書に載っていなければ、おそらく 「新語」 だと判断できます。
自分はまだまだなので、大辞典を使うにふさわしい人になろうと
新たなスタートとして、モチベーションも上がります。
そして、自分はさらにいっそう、辞書が大好きになりました

As my special Day 8, I shared 3 pictures of Webster's Third New International Dictionary. In addition, I would like to introduce quotations from this dictionary's cover. :)
"From Noah Webster to Merriam-Webster
Noah Webster came of age during the American Revolution.
He believed fervently in the cultural independence of the United States, and especially in the idea of a distinctive American language with its own idiom, pronunciation, and style.
Through his dictionaries, especially An American Dictionary of the English Language (1828), he gained recognition for the legitimacy of American English.
Webster's legacy has endured, largely due to the foresight of George and Charles Merriam, booksellers from Springfield, Massachusetts, who obtained the rights to revise and publish new editions of the great American Dictionary.
Their efforts made "Merriam-Webster" the most important name in American dictionaries. In the 150 years since the publication of its first dictionary, Merriam-Webster has dedicated itself to strict editorial standards to produce innovative, high quality, affordable language reference works."
I have great respect for all relevant people of making dictionaries, such as Oxford, Longman, Collins, and so forth.
Needless to say, I am impressed by Japanese dictionaries like Kojien, Iwanami, Meikyo... etc as well. Thanks to them, I can learn languages more deeply & correctly by myself. Again, I would like to express my gratitude to all people around the world.
