「第４４回スーパーボウル」は、
大本命「インディアナポリス・コルツ」と
伏兵「ニューオリンズ・セインツ」の対戦となった。
場所はフロリダ州マイアミ、サンライフ・スタジアム。
国家斉唱は「キャリー・アンダーウッド」。
彼女は今やグラミーも獲った大物カントリーシンガーとなっているが、
２００６年の「CMA アワード」での事、
大本命とされた「フェイス・ヒル」を抑え
「最優秀女性ボーカリスト」を受賞した時、
受賞を疑わなかったフェイス・ヒルが
「何？（日本的には『マジ？ありえねぇし。』）」
というリアクションをし、
それが物議を醸し出した事で有名になったシンガーである。
主な登場人物は・・・
①ペイトン・マニング
（コルツのクォーターバック、アメリカンフットボール界の
「エリート中のエリート」、
解説者をして「コーチがユニフォームを着ている」と言わしめた。）
②ショーン・ペイトン
（セインツのヘッドコーチ、
「総合力」に重きを置いてチーム作りをしてきた。）
③ドリュー・ブリーズ
（セインツのクォーターバック、
不遇だった境遇を指し「雑草」と呼ばれてきた。）
試合は前半予想通りコルツが順調に試合を進めリードを保った。
おっとここで忘れてはならない、
「ハーフタイムショー」はロックファンなら誰でも知っている、
"The Who"
日本でも「サマータイム・ブルース」は
「子供バンド」がコピーしているし、
「マイ・ジェネレーション」
も名曲として今も巷に流れる時がしばしばある。
伝説のロックフェスティバル、
「ウッドストック 1969」
（10,000 人から 20,000 人の参加者を予想していたが、
180,000 枚のチケットが印刷され、
結果的に 400,000 人がイベントに殺到したという、
カウンターカルチャーの底力を世界に示す象徴的な実験イベント。
ジミー・ヘンドリックス や ジャニス・ジョプリン が出てたんだぜ！
というより、出演を断ったアーティストが凄い。

もし出演していたら、あるいは今出演していたら、
どのくらいのギャラ総額だったんだろ？ ）
の頃からトップアーティストだったから、
ロックシーンにおける彼らの功績は相当なもの。
スーパーボウルのハーフタイムショーには
必ず「超一流」が出演するので、
初めて見るアーティストでも
「成る程、これが世界トップクラスなんだ。」
と認識してご覧頂くと良い。
さて、試合は後半から動き出す。
第３クォーター、開始のキックオフをセインツは
「オンサイド・キック」にうって出る。
作戦は成功し、タッチダウンに結び付ける。
当然「ショーン・ペイトン」の指示であろうが、
この大舞台で流れを変えるアイデアは、チーム全体の士気を高める。
不況の今こそ、こうしたリーダーの
「責任ある勇気」が必要な時代である。
じわじわとセインツが追い上げる中、第４クォーター、
コルツの １７－１６ で「フィールドゴール」のチャンス。
キッカーは「ストーバー」。
重圧からか、実力の範囲外だったのか、５１ヤードのキックを外す。
ここでとても印象的なシーンが映し出される。
「ストーバー」がミスした瞬間、
「ペイトン・マニング」がベンチにタオルを投げつけたのである。
無言のマニングの前をうなだれて歩き去るストーバー。
ここで「コルツ」という「組織」の状態が分かる。
「ペイトン・マニングの指示に従い、それを１００％成功させ、
彼に気に入られなければならない。
彼ににらまれたら ”終わり” のワンマン組織」なのである。
だから「チームメイト＝部下」は、
彼の機嫌を伺い乍らプレーに臨まなければならない。
この後セインツは逆転に成功し、
セインツの ２２－１７ で「２ ポイントコンバージョン」を仕掛けた。
結果は不成功。
ランス・ムーアがボールを受け取った時、
足がラインの外に出ていたと判断されたのである。
誰しもがっかりして諦めかけた時、
「チャレンジ！」
そう叫ぶ者がいた。「ショーン・ペイトン」である。
彼を突き動かしたもの、それは「部下への信頼」である。
彼は思ったに違いない。
「私の部下がミスする筈がない、例えミスしたとしても
私は部下を全力で守らなければならない。」
結果「チャレンジ」は認められ、「たったの」２点が加算された。
だが「ショーン・ペイトン」は両腕を天高く突き上げ、
選手の「小さな成果」を、
我が事の様に「最大限の喜び」として表現した。
「リーダー」に必要な資質、「真摯さ」は「親心」にも通じる。
こうして「総合力」で襲い掛かるセインツに、
「ペイトン・マニング」を盾に群がるコルツは萎縮した。
思えばプレーオフ以降、試合の前半迄（試合終了直前まで）
「セインツが勝てる訳ない」と言われ続けてきた。
ここへ来てそうしたこれ迄のうっぷんが、
会場に叫びやうねりとなって表れ始めた。
「Who Dat ? !
（誰が『セインツが勝てる訳ないなんて』言ったんだ？！）」
半数の「Who Dat ? !」は、
まるで会場全体から発せられているかの様に感じられた。
恐らくコルツの攻撃でも
セインツのディフェンスは狂人の如く叫び続けていたであろう、
「Who Dat ? ! Who Dat ? !」と。
コルツのオフェンスのリズムが狂い始める。
パスが（レシーバーの間近に来たボールですら）
キャッチ出来なくなってしまったのである。
やがてとどめの瞬間がやって来る。
「アメリカンフットボール界のスーパースター、ペイトン・マニング」
から放たれたボールは、
セインツ「トレーシー・ポーター」の懐にしっかりと収められ、
そのまま「インターセプト・タッチダウン」となったのである。
まさに「栄光のヴィクトリー・ラン」である。
３１－１７。
戦いは終わった。
「誰一人秀でた者のいない組織」が
「総合力」で「エリート組織」に打ち勝ったのである。
「MVP」は「ドリュー・ブリーズ」に与えられた。
「雑草」が「世界最高のプレーヤー」として認められた瞬間であった。
「タイミング」、「勇気」、「資質」。
これらの優れた「リーダーシップ」を
随所に見せた「ショーン・ペイトン」は
「アメリカンフットボールという競技に於ける最高権威」である
「ロンバルディー・トロフィー」を手にし、
掲げながらも勝利を自分の手柄にしなかった。
「これは皆さんのものだ、ありがとう！」

私は基本的に
「取り返しのつかないミス」
というのは人命に関わらない限り存在しないとお伝えしている。
「次の手立て（対応の仕方）が変わるだけ」
