America is still far better than a lot of other countries. You just have to be smart about certain things in this day and age. We don't live in an era where we can just leave our doors unlocked and our nice cars left parked on the driveway and not the garage.
Japan is probably the closest I can think of to another great country to live in - but even they have their own set of problems.

While homicide rates isn’t the same as number of deaths from gun violence, Japan is very very close to the safest places to live from my own experience.
Most of the crimes committed in Japan are either; knife attacks by people with some degree of mental problems, some of them are those that are committed by people who overwork and therefore are not getting enough rest, and even kill their very old parents (Japanese people life expectancy is one of the highest in world, and many people live past 90 years old especially women women so imagine that if someone is overworking and when they come home they still have to take care of their parents), so those are probably the vast majority of the homicide cases that you provided in the graph. The second part of those cases are most likely related to Yakuza internal conflicts.
I live in Japan and believe me, I can go outside anytime (late night or whenever I want), I can even go outside and sleep in the park (which Japan has quite a lot) and no one is going to bother me. As long as I don’t get involved with Yakuza (I can walk by them and they will not do anything to anyone as long as you don’t get involved in their activities),
Few years ago, in Amagasaki we had a conflict between Yakuza groups and one of the member of conflicting group shot a member of the Yakuza group. Police were able to investigate and track down the suspect in 2 or 3 days if I remember correctly.
Just type in the Google search about an old American tourist who was unlucky to ask police for directions and had a pocket knife. Instead of giving him directions he was asking for, he got arrested since you can’t carry a knife longer than couple of centimeters.
Even samurai swords are prohibited here in Japan. If you are old enough and had a samurai sword before that law was passed, you can keep it in your house but upon your death it has to be handed to police and.

Marine Corps boot camps are not even close to the conditions that are practiced in Japanese prisons. Wake up early in the morning, do exercise, and other tasks. But the hardest part is that prisoners aren’t allowed to talk to each other and even a minor step aside from the those requirements are going to be very harsh on those who don’t follow them.

It's hard to imagine any country that is completely crime/homicide free. Terrible people live everywhere.

月曜日の夕方、自宅で車に侵入してきた男たちとの対決で、男性が負傷しました。

警察によると、月曜日の午後7時2分、Valley View Driveで強盗が発生したとの通報があった。警察によると、自宅の所有者が車に乗っていた1人の容疑者に近づき、喧嘩が始まったという。喧嘩の最中、さらに3人の容疑者が待機していた車から降りてきて、被害者に暴行を加え始めました。その後、4人の容疑者はダークブルーまたは黒の4ドアメルセデスセダンで、その場を去りました。
