National Hot Rod Association driver Larry Dixon is lucky to be alive.
The drag racer survived a horrifying crash after his car disintegrated and catapulted into the air then smashed into a barrier at 280 mph during Saturday's qualifying run at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Auto Plus Raceway in Gainesville, Fla.
Dixon astonishingly walked away from the wreck with no injuries and even waved to the crowd. He described the crash as "a roller-coaster ride that flies off the track."

原因不明となっているようですが、映像から、疲労でフレームが折れたのが発端か？
前後リジットでフレームがバネのような構造だと、疲労がフレームに溜まりやすいと思われる。
今回のケースのように、フレームが折れてフロントのダウンフォースがなくなると、リアタイヤ後方のリアウイングだけが機能し、ウイリーする。
ウイリーすると、ボディ下にも大量の空気が流れ込むのでさらにウイリーして離陸。
ジャンボジェットの離陸速度が、300km/h位なので、羽の角度次第では飛びます。
と、勝手に原因分析しておこう（笑）
ただし、フレームが折れてなくても似たような飛ぶ現象は起こっているので、突風などの外因かもしれないが・・・
450km/hでクラッシュして、歩いて帰ってくるとは強運の持ち主化け物です（笑）
ナショナルチャンピオンになるような人は、何か持っているようですね。
クラッシュしたマシンは、その後どうなったのか気になるところ。
壊れたエンジン、オブジェに欲しいですね（笑）
（エンジンは使えそうだが・・・）
Top Fuel driver Larry Dixon walked away uninjured from this spectacular crash when his Top Fuel dragster went out of control and crashed near the finish line during Saturday's first qualifying session at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals. Dixon was checked and released by NHRA emergency service officials at the track.
