アメリカ軍撮影による太平洋戦争のカラー映像は、今では良く知られており、収録された商品もいくつか見受けられます。
同様に終戦直後の日本の様子も、カラー映像で残されています。
しかし驚くべき事に、このDVDには「戦前」の日本の様子もカラー映像で収録されているのです。
これまでモノクロ映像でしか見られなかった昭和初期の日本国内の風景や、日中戦争当時の日本軍が、カラーフィルムに残されていたのです。
残念な事に日本版では無いので字幕は付いていませんし、リージョン１ですが、それを差し引いても、この映像は必見だと思います。
なおNHKにて放送されたものとは、内容の一部と編集が異なります。

映像の大部分はＮＨＫで放映された「よみがえる昭和初期の日本」と同じですが、戦前の外国人向け日本紹介ビデオに始まり、昭和天皇の広島巡幸で終わる内容のほとんどが戦争に係わりのある映像です。特に日本近代史に関心のある人にお勧めで、比較的簡単な英語ナレーションで、英語字幕がついています。
個人的には、特典映像の米国防省製作になる約３０分のドキュメンタリー「最後の爆弾(The Last Bomb)」が興味深かった。ルメイ少将による戦略爆撃の計画から、往復１５時間かかるＢ２９の実際の飛行の様子まで、日本上空での空中戦や機銃掃射のフィルムも交えて、カラー映像のニュース映画として公開されていたことに驚きました。
英語解説で日本語字幕がないですが、貴重な映像のようです。
必見の部類と思います。
