LOS ANGELES – The courtship was long, but finally, the LA Galaxy got their man on Thursday when the club announced the acquisition of forward Cristian Pavon from Boca Juniors.

The 23-year-old Argentina international joins the Galaxy on loan from Club Atlético Boca Juniors. The forward arrives with a brilliant pedigree having played over 100 games while scoring a combined 60 goals and assists during his professional career.

The move reunites him with former head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto who helped him discover his the best form of his career en route to a spot on Argentina's 2018 FIFA World Cup team.

After signing with the Galaxy, he took note to thank Schelotto for his role in helping him head to Los Angeles.

“I was with him in Boca Juniors, and the truth is he always treated me well," he says of the LA Galaxy boss. "He always worked well and helped me a lot to be able to make me being here possible. He also helped me a lot in me making it to the World Cup, so I will always be very thankful to him.”

“The truth is the process [of signing] was long; the wait was long. Luckily I am here now, and I will try to enjoy and give my best in every game I play and in every training session.”

Pavon joins a Galaxy team eager to add in attacking punch after an up-and-down first half of the season that saw the club reliant on striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The 23-year-old brings his own attacking acumen having tallied 28 goals and adding 32 assists with Boca Juniors since joining the club in 2014.

“I am a winger, I like to play on the left wing and cut inside and shoot if there’s a possibility," he said of his role. "I can also play on the right and send it crosses to my teammates, but I feel the most comfortable on the left because I have the possibility of shooting to the goal.”

Now in Los Angeles, Pavon is eager to recapture his top form while leading the Galaxy to another MLS Cup title.

"I will try to first adapt in the best way and [because at] Boca I was in top form, and now I want to try to find that level here and try to be better here at the Galaxy.

"I will try to give my best, win everything with the Galaxy and give it my all.”

Atlanta United compiled a comprehensive performance Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium against the LA Galaxy, emerging with a 3-0 win before 72,548 fans, an MLS single-game attendance record in the regular season.

The defending MLS Cup champions benefitted from a pair of own goals in the first half, with Pity Martinez generating the first in the 23rd minute. The Argentine midfielder crossed centrally from the right, and Galaxy center back David Romney redirected past goalkeeper David Bingham.

The second arose in the 43rd minute via LA’s other center back, Giancarlo Gonzalez. This time it was a Justin Meram cross from the left that attempted to find Josef Martinez, but instead made it 2-0 via a deflection from the Costa Rican.

With a commanding lead, Atlanta then put the game out of reach in the 72nd minute via a Josef Martinez penalty kick, marking his ninth consecutive game with a goal, tying his own MLS record. The spot kick arose after Video Review judged that Gonzalez fouled second-half substitute Emerson Hyndman on an attempted clearance.

LA, notably playing without Zlatan Ibrahimovic (yellow-card suspension), saw their best chances come from Favio Alvarez and Uriel Antuna, especially in the first half. But the final product lacked, with Atlanta’s 3-5-2 formation and transition game exploiting the Galaxy backline.

THE BIG PICTURE: Amid a week full of controversial comments, Atlanta got straight down to business in earning all three points. Josef Martinez scored in his ninth straight game, Ezequiel Barco returned to the starting XI for the first time in nearly three months, Pity Martinez looked more comfortable and a single-game attendance record was set for the MLS regular season. As for LA, they’ve now dropped three of their last four. This one came without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Efrain Alvarez and Diego Polenta, though it’s hard to know how they would have tilted the match.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: The first own goal in the 23rd minute set the tone during a back-and-forth first half, igniting Atlanta to a convincing win. It also paved the way for what’s now the fourth game of the 2019 MLS season to feature a pair of own goals. Before 2019, there were four total in league history.

MAN OF THE MATCH: In a three-man backline, 22-year-old Miles Robinson was central for Atlanta – and he hardly put a foot wrong. He kept Uriel Antuna under wraps, marking another impressive match in the youngster’s career.

The Portland Timbers were dominant Saturday evening at Providence Park, as they rolled past the LA Galaxy, 4-0, a repeat of their Open Cup scoreline back on June 19.

Portland’s first two goals arrived via counterattacks shortly after Zlatan Ibrahimovic chances, starting in the 37th minute. Cristhian Paredes made a late-arriving run into the 18-yard box, then headed home a swooping cross from right back Jorge Moreira.

The lead then became 2-0 in the 41st minute, as midfield maestro Diego Valeri went on a 40-yard dribble. It was capped off by the Argentine nutmegging center back David Steres, then tucking into the far post.

Portland then made it 3-0 in the 81st minute, when Paredes’ volley gave the home side a cushion they never relinquished.

Any hopes of a Galaxy comeback were done and dusted come the 84th minute, as Homegrown midfielder Efrain Alvarez was shown a straight red card for blasting a loose ball off Portland midfielder Marvin Loria after a foul. With a man advantage, Portland then poured on the fourth in the 88th minute on a Jeremy Ebobisse header.

The match could have gone a different way were it not for Timbers’ goalkeeper Steve Clark recording six saves. The best arrived in the

75th minute, as he scrambled across his goalmouth to rob Uriel Antuna, who latched onto a squared pass from Ibrahimovic.

The LA Galaxy and Club Tijuana blessed the fledgling Leagues Cup with a dose of drama on Tuesday night.

The two clubs settling their quarterfinal matchup with a penalty-kick shootout after they finished regulation time deadlocked at 2-2, Galaxy goalkeeper Matt Lampson saved three spot kicks and Giancarlo Gonzalez blasted the winner into the top right corner to see the Los Angeles side into the tournament's semifinals, where they'll meet Cruz Azul.

Emmanuel Boateng opened the night's scoring when a shot by Kai Koreniuk took a heavy deflection off his torso and wrongfooted Xolos goalkeeper Gibran Lajud on its way into the net. Tijuana replied almost immediately, however, as Ariel Nahuelpan fired the equalizer into an empty net after a strong spell of passing and movement tore open the Galaxy defense.

Washington Camacho pushed the Baja Californians in front with a firm one-time finish after a late run into the box just before the halftime break. That lead was erased early in the second stanza, when a lightly-marked Dave Romney thumped Efra Alvarez's well-delivered corner kick past Lajud from close range.

Chances went begging at both ends before the full-time whistle blew, which in this event's format was followed immediately by the shootout, where the Galaxy held their nerve to survive and advance.

•THE BIG PICTURE: No Zlatan Ibrahimovic, no Jonathan dos Santos... no problem for the Galaxy, who held their nerve against Nahuelpan and the rest of Xolos' talented attack despite featuring nearly as many players from their Los Dos USL side as the first team. It wasn't always pretty, but what a boost for those who took part.

•MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Romney's set-piece equalizer was key, but we'll point to Lampson's shootout saves, particularly his third, as the most riveting element of the proceedings...

•MAN OF THE MATCH: Considering he'd never saved a PK in nine career tries in MLS, Matt Lampson's spot-kick heroics were both surprising and inspiring, to say nothing of his three saves in regulation time.

　MLS（メジャーリーグサッカー）のロサンゼルス・ギャラクシーに所属する元スウェーデン代表FWズラタン・イブラヒモビッチが、“ビッグマウス”にふさわしい見事な活躍を見せつけた。ダービーマッチで「パーフェクトハットトリック」を達成している。

　37歳となった現在も衰えを感じさせないプレーを続けているイブラヒモビッチ。先日には米『ESPN』のインタビューに対し、「MLSだとオレは（大衆車）フィアットの中で走るフェラーリのようなものだ」と豪語していた。

　さらにイブラヒモビッチは、MLSの得点ランク首位に立つロサンゼルスFCのメキシコ代表FWカルロス・ベラと比較しても自分の方が圧倒的に上だと主張。「今29歳の彼はMLSで全盛期を過ごしている。オレが29歳の時とは大きく違う」と話していた。

　現地時間19日に行われたMLSの試合では、両者の所属するギャラクシーとロサンゼルスFCがダービーマッチで激突。ベラも2得点を挙げたが、イブラヒモビッチはハットトリックで3点を奪い、チームを3-2の勝利に導いた。しかも右足、左足、ヘディングでそれぞれ1点を決める、いわゆる「パーフェクト」ハットトリックだった。

　これでイブラヒモビッチは今季のMLSで17試合に出場して16ゴール。得点ランクでも21点のベラに次ぐ単独2位に浮上した。

　試合後のインタビューでは、イブラヒモビッチは「今日のフェラーリは燃料満タンだった」とコメント。自身のツイッターアカウントでも「オレがLAだ！」と誇らしげに写真とメッセージを掲載している。
