Another Groupon Dinner today as Tomtato an I went to the Outpost Bar and Bistro. It is located outside Harbourfront Shopping Center on the Other Side of Sentosa Gateway. In order to get there you need to enter via Harbourfront and Cross over a briidge located next to Golden Village Cinema.
Ambience
Our table booking was for 7:30pm on Friday. From the bridge we could see the St James Power Station. Walking over to the other side we were greeted with by a colorful but dimly Lit Hawker Center. Behind the Hawker Center lies one side of the Old Power Station. We could see that its once industrial doors were now home to a handful of pubs and clubs that were still closed, being renovated or deserted. The immediate surrouding has an old factory rustic feel, but lit out by color light bulbs strung from wall to wall. Our original booking was for a table outside the bar. This was not the best idea as because of the humidity. Tables outside the bar also do not allow us to view the performances. We changed the plan and opted for rail seating instead.
Performance
Live band member were warming up when we arrived. They turned out to be quite good. Enjoyed the song rendition and bright voices from the lead singer and piano player.
Food
We ordered a selection of food from the entre menu. These included a plate of calamari, salad, braised muschroom, sausages and chips. It was served in stages as there was not enough room on the rail seats to fit the plates. In two words I could describe the overall experience as dry and salty. We were served flat softdrinks and weissenbeir.
Recommendation
Overall Outpost is overpriced, our total bill reached over $90 for two people. My recommendation is to eat at the hawker center and then head over to the bistro for some drinks and music. Do make a booking though as it seems that about 9-10pm the place starts to look crowded. Its a great place for first timers but would i repeat the experience. I say maybe. Good for large groups I suppose.
