香取神道流門下には、”男子たる者、神道流を学ばずしてあるべからず, 云々”という慣わしがあります。 ６２０年もの間、連綿と受け継がれてきた伝統です。 偉大な流祖飯篠長威斎家直先生が築かれた伝統です。 決して、いたずらに変えてはいけませんし、長威斎先生の境地を越えられる訳もありません。
長威斎先生が香取神道流を築くまでは、系統立った剣j術はありませんでした。 その意味では、香取神道流は、その当時、革新的なものであったと思います。 その革新が今、伝統になりました。
”男子たる者、神道流を学ばずしてあるべからず, 云々” でなく、”人たる者、神道流を学ばずしてあるべからず、云々 ” としたいものです。 室町時代には、我々が想像する以上に男子が優先されていたと思われます。さすがの長威斎先生も男女平等は、その時代に言い切れなかったのかもしれません。
伝統を少しでも変えるには勇気が必要です。 必ず、伝統を守ろうとする者の強い反発を受けます。 香取神道流は現在、男子だけが学ぶものではありません。 男女を問わず、老若を問わず、国籍を問わず、学んでおります。 今から６００年後に、”人たる者、神道流を学ばずしてあるべからず、云々” の慣わしが伝統となることを信じます。
There is a rule of Katori Shintouryu that you should learn Katori Shintoryu if you are a man, etc. This is a tradition we have been succeeding since the great founder established 620 years ago. We should not change the rule of Katori Shintoryu easily because regular people never exceed what the founder established.
There was no sword techinique which was logically systemized, before the founder established Katori Shintouryu. In a sense, Katori Shintouryu was an innovative at the era. The innovation has become a tradition.
I would like to change to "you should learn Katori Shintouryu if you are a human being" from "you should learn Katori Shintoryu if you are a man". Men were highly ranked at the era much more than we currently imagined. Even the great founder did not think a gender equality at the era.
We need to be brave to change a tradition. There are always people who keep the tradition and strongly resist the change. Recently not only men but also women learn Katori Shintoryu. Men, women, aged, young, Japanese, and foreigners learn it. I believe "you should learn Katori Shintouryu if you are a human being" will become the tradition 600 years later.
