イケメンの若侍とその若侍に連れられて来た若侍が、長威斎先生の門下に入門して５年の歳月が流れました。 イケメン侍は、生来の剣術の才能と熱心な稽古のおかげで、驚くほど腕を上げました。 もう一人の侍も長威斎先生から毎日、少しの時間を割いて自己を見つめ直すことを奨められてから、人が変ったように稽古に励みました。
ある師走の日、長威斎先生はイケメン侍を呼んで来年の正月に免許を授けることを伝えました。 イケメン侍は大変喜んだそうです。 それを聞いたもう一人の侍が長威斎先生を訪ねて、自分にも免許を授けてほしいと懇願したそうです。 長威斎先生は、その侍をじっと見つめるだけで何もおっしゃらなかったようです。 その侍は怒りに拳を震わせ、イケメン侍に対する妬みを露わにして、その場を去ったそうです。
その後、その侍が長威斎先生の道場に来ることはありませんでした。 やがて、その侍が毎晩、酒に溺れ、女に溺れて遊び呆けていることが聞こえてきました。 ある長老の弟子が、”その侍に免許を授ければ、また、道場で稽古に励みましょう” と長威斎先生に進言したようです。 長威斎先生は、”去る者は追わず” とおっしゃたそうです。 そして、”怒りと妬みを堪え、欲の貪りから解放され、穏やかな人に成ってから、免許を与えよう” とおっしゃったそうです。
5 years have passed since 2 young worriers entered Katori Shintoryu. The nice-looking worrier increased his sword technique a lot thanks to his innate talent and his daily hard practice. Another one has done a hard training everyday as well since he got advice of looking at himself everyday from the founder.
Oneday in December, the founder told the nice-looking worrier that you were given a certification of Katori Shintoryu in January of next year. He was so glad. Another one came to the founder and strongly asked him to give him the certification as well. The founder looked at him without saying anything. The worrier trembled his fist with anger, expressed his jealousy against the nice-looking one, and left.
The worrier has never come to the founder again. A few days later, the founder heard a rumor that the worrier spent every night for prostitutes and a lot of Sake. An elderly follower said to the founder, "he will do a hard practice again if he is given the certification as well". The founder said to him,
" Do not ask a person, who wants to leave, to stay. The certification will be given to him when he manages his anger, jealousy very well and is released from his greed.
