百姓になった若侍は、貧しくても穏やかな日々を過ごしておりました。 稲は草を抜いてやるとよく育ち、豆は虫を取ってやると多くの実をならせました。 働けば働いただけ作物は応えてくれました。 貧しくとも、母親がいて、妻がいて、子がいる。 家族が力を合わせて、平和に暮らしておりました。
ある日、隣国の領主が難癖をつけて、百姓になった若侍が住む香取の地に攻め込んでくると噂が広がりました。 香取の地の領主から百姓になった若侍が住む村に徴兵の命が下りました。 百姓になった若侍は村人と陣笠を被り、九尺の槍を担いで陣に加わりました。
百姓になった若侍には大鎧はなく、太刀もなく、小太刀もありませんでした。 生活のためにすべて売り払ってしまいました。 九尺の槍を担ぎ、腰に鎧通しを差して雑兵として第三槍隊に加わりました。 戦闘がはじまり、第一隊が敗れ、第二隊もあっさりと敗れ、第三隊が前面に出ました。 敵の槍隊は、闇雲に槍を振り、突いてきました。 味方の第三隊はその勢いに戦き逃げ去り、百姓になった若侍のみが取り残されました。
敵に囲まれた若侍は九尺の槍を上段（水平）に構え、襲いかかる敵に左手で的を絞り、右手で槍を突きだしました。 一人の敵の腹に突き刺さり（飛龍之槍）、一人の敵の左肩を突き砕き（去龍之槍）、一人の敵の喉を下段から突き破り（突留之槍）、一人の敵の左腿を突き裂き（揚矢之槍）、一人の敵の両目を突き抉り（電光之槍）、一人の敵の両腿を中段から突き刺さしました（夜之矢槍）。 若侍は百姓に成り下がっても香取神道流の槍術の稽古を毎夜、励んでいました。
敵はその勇姿に戦き、総崩れになりました。 香取の地の領主は大いに喜び、百姓になった若侍に太刀一刀を持って褒め称え、士分として再度、取り立てると告げてきました。 若侍の母親は大いに喜びました。 今まで蔑んだ目で見ていた村人は平身低頭し、多くの元同僚が親交を求めて訪問してきました。
若侍は人の移り気に当惑しながら、周りの変化に惑わされずに本質を見極めることを肝に銘じました。
The young worrier, who became a farmer, spent peaceful days though they were very poor. Rice grew with a good weed management, and beans produced a lot of pods with a good insect control. Yield of crops increased in parallel with thier hard work. There were a mother, a wife, and a kid, though they were very poor. They spent peaceful time as a family.
One day, it was rumored that a landlord of neighboring countries would invade the country of Katori where the young worrier lived. The landlord of Katori country ordered villagers including the young worrier to join his military. The young worrier joined his military with a 2.7 meter long spear together with other villagers.
He did not have an armor, a long sword, and a short sword. He sold them out for thier living. He joined the 3rd corps with his spear and 30 cm long sword, so-called "Yoroidoshi". The 1st corps was defeated, and then the second one, too, after the battle began. The enemy striked and pushed out their spears so strongly. Soldiers of the 3rd corps run away so easily, and the young worrier alone was left.
The young worrier, who was surrounded by the enemy, pointed his spear at the enemy with his left hand, and stabbed with his right hand. He stabbed to a belly of the enemy with a spear, so-called "Hiryu No Yari", a left shoulder with a spear, so-called "Koryu No Yari", a throat with a spear, so-called "Tukitome No Yari", a left thigh with a spear so-called "Anya No Yari", a eyes with a spear so-called "Denko No Yari", both thighs with a spear so-called "Yorunoya Yari". He spent every night for the training of Katori Shintoryu spear technique, though he became a farmer.
The enemy run away because of the young worrier. The landlord of Katori country was very much pleased for his contribution, and recognized him a worrier again with award of a long sword. His mother was very pleased. Villagers, who had insulted him, began respecting him, and a lot of his former colleagues called him so often. He was very much upset by changes of people, and made an effort to find nature of everything without distracting by many changes.
