ある日、香取神道流流祖飯篠長威斎家直先生の道場に、ごく普通の素直そうな一人の若者が入門してきました。その次の日、途轍もない運動能力を持った若者が入門してきました。 敏捷性といい、跳躍力といい、今までにない能力の持主であり、いつの日か香取神道流を背負ってゆく者と道場の長老は喜びました。 若侍も彼の素質を高く評価し、熱心に稽古をつけてやろうと思いました。
若侍は長威斎先生に、”あのような優れた若者が入門し、香取神道流も彼らにより長く後世に伝えられるでしょう”と言いました。 長威斎先生は、”唯、経津主大神の技のみを追求すべし”とおっしゃたそうです。
道場の先輩が毎日、熱心に途轍もない運動能力を持った若者に稽古をつけてやりました。 しかし、その若者は表之太刀の稽古で、 ”私はそれほど早く巻き打ちを振ることが出来ません”と言い、抜附之剣の稽古では、”私はそんなに高く飛べません”と言って、稽古を避けるようになりました。
途轍もない運動能力を持った若者が入門して３年が過ぎました。 その若者の前日に入門したごく普通の素直そうな若者はめきめきと腕を上げ、目録を授与されるまでに成長しました。その若者は先輩からの助言を素直に聞き、すべての技を吸収してゆきました。 残念ながら、途轍もない運動能力を持った若者は己の能力に自ら限界を設けて、その限界を超えることができず、道場から去ってゆきました。
人は、自分の能力が無限であることを知りません。特に、若い時にそれに気づかないと、人としての器を小さくし、刺激に満ちたすばらしい人生を築き上げることができません。私の娘も、”こんな難しい数学は絶対に解けない”と言い、”こんなに難しい大学には絶対に入学できない”と言います。 絶対に出来ないという限界を自ら設け、自分の可能性を閉ざしてしまいます。 出来ないと自ら限界を設けた人は、それを超えることは絶対にできません。 しかし、出来ると思っている人はいつしかそれを必ず成し遂げます。
One day, a young, ordinary man who seems to be gentle came to the practice hall (Dojo) of Katori Shintoryu and became one of the followers of the founder. The next day, another young man with an outstanding athletic ability entered Katori Shintoryu. He had an excellent agility and jumping power nobody had. The seniors of the Dojo were very glad with expectation of he become a good successor of Katori Shintoryu in the future. The yound worrier also evaluated his ability highly and decided to grow him through the practice.
The young worrier said to the founder, "That great young man enters the Dojo, and the Katori Shintoryu will also be handed down for a long time by them to future generations".
The founder said "You should pursue only work of Futsunushi-No-Omikami, the great God"

The seniors trained the young man eagerly, who had an outstanding athletic ability, every day.
However, the young man said during the training of Omote-No-Tachi, "I cannot do the Maki-Uchi so fast", and during the training of Nukitsuke-No-Ken, " I can not jump so high". He gradually avoided the pratice .
Three years have passed since the young man with an outstanding athletic ability entered Katori Shintoryu. The very ordinary young man who entered Katori Shintoryu on the previous day of the young man increased his sword technique remarkably, and was almost granted preliminary-certificate, so-called "Mokuroku". The young man heard the advice from a senior obediently, and absorbed all the work. It was very regrettable that the young man with an outstanding athletic ability set a limit by himself and could not exceed the limit. He eventually left the Dojo.
People do not know their capability is infinite. Especially young people can not expand their capability and can not spend exciting life when they do not know it. My daughter also says, "I cannot answer such difficult mathematic questions by any means", and says, "I cannot enter in such a difficult university by any means." The limit that they cannot do by any means is established by themself. I think that people who established the limit by themself can not do that by any means.
However, people who think can-do-it accomplish it certainly someday.
