ある日、天真正伝香取神道流流祖飯篠長威斎家直公の道場の玄関でざわめきが起こりました。 そこには、真剣勝負を申し込み、訪ねた道場主を次から次に殺し悪名をはせた侍が立っていました。 誰もが、果し合いの申し出かと緊張が走りました。 しかし、その侍は丁寧に一礼し、入門を申し出てきました。 高弟が長威斎先生にその侍の趣旨を伝えました。 いつの日か香取神道流の技を習得した後、必ず香取神道流に災いをもたらすと察した多くの高弟が入門を拒否するように進言しました。 長威斎先生は”来る者は拒まず”と一言残し、入門を許可しました。
その侍は毎日、真面目に香取神道流の稽古に励みました。 長威斎先生は他の門弟とその侍を差別することなく、香取神道流の技を教え込みました。 もともと、剣に長けていたその侍はめきめきと腕を上げ、１年後に目録、３年後に免許を授与されました。 多くの高弟がその侍に疑心暗鬼を持ち続ける中、その侍は稽古に現れなくなり、突然姿を消しました。 高弟はそのことを長威斎先生に伝えると”去る者は追わず”とおっしゃいました。
香取神道流には、”来る者は拒まず、去る者は追わず”という寛容の精神が流祖飯篠長威斎家直公から連綿として受け継がれております。 職業、出身、宗教に係わらず老若男女、誰でも入門することができます。 門人は差別されることなく香取神道流の技を習得でき、稽古始、稽古納、演武会、宗家および香取神宮関連行事に等しく参加することができます。 広い寛容の精神で門人を包み込んでおります。
One day, a stir has happened at a front door of Katori Shinto Dojo Choisai-sensei managed. A samurai who had killed many sword training school hosts stood there. Since everyone thought he proposed a duel, tension was built up. But the samurai was curtsying politely and was showing his intention to join Katori Shintoryu. A leading student handed his intention down to Choisai-sensei. After acquiring work of the Katori Shinto, many leading students who supposed to bring a trouble certainly advised to refuse he permission. Choisai-sensei said that" The person who want to join is not declined." and the samurai was permitted.
The samurai learned Katori Shinto every day seriously. Choisai-sensei taught him Katori Shinto without discriminating him. The samurai who excelled in use of a sword originally improved his skill rapidly and was given a license 3 years later. While many leading students were keeping extreme doubtfulness for the samurai, the samurai didn't appear any more in a practice, and disappeared suddenly. When it was handed down to Choisai-sensei, a leading disciple said" The person who want to leave is not chased."
The tolerant spirit of " The person who want to join is not declined, the person who want to leave is not chased." is transmitted from generation to generation since Chouisai-sensei. All men and women of all ages can enter Katori Shintoryu in spite of occupation, a hometown and a religion. All of the students can learn the Katori Shinto without being discriminated, and can participate in opening & closing dates of the training, Enbukai (demonstration), Souke and Katori shrine related events. The students are protected by the wide tolerant spirit.
