Tondenmon is very huge section. Almost all tourrist has a image of fashion town, but there are many kind of market. Here's a town for restaurant gear or tools. It's like kappabashi. Products are put on the road. There are opened free market at weekend.
東大門はファッションタウンのイメージが強いですが、合羽橋のような飲食店向けの卸市場もあります。新品もあればユーズドもあり、空調機器から食器までなんでもあります。露天商もでています。週末にはフリーマーケットが開かれ多くの一般人で賑わうそうです。

Why "Honde"?

We rent a house at Honde there is really charming place. Honde write in english "hongik university". I asked to my friend why does it written in Honde. He said that's short word. Hon from Hongik, De from daehag(university). Korean likes to reduce the word,same as japanese.
弘大は「ホンデェ」と言います。でも英語表記はHongik Univ.です。実はホンデェは短縮語。ホンキッのホン、大学のデハッのデェをくっつけてホンデェと短縮しています。このように表記と読みが違うことが多いので結構大変です。日本もジョージとか言っていたような。

At the market!

My friend will open the japanese restaurant at Hongik in 25th. So We went a market specific in vegetable. Market is very huge truck can enter directly. Average cost of vegetable is little cheaper than Japanese. But there is a lot of variation. For exsample there are several types of cucumbers.
友人がモツ鍋屋を25日に開店します。今日は24日のプレオープンに向けて材料の仕込みに、早朝から市場に向かいました。ワールドカップスタジアムの向かいにあるこの市場では野菜の仕入れが中心です。一般の人も購入できますが、量が多すげてきっと冷蔵庫がいっぱいになるのでは。平均的には日本の３分の２くらいの価格。ただ種類が豊富です。トマトの専門店、ゴマの専門店なども。また白菜やキャベツなど見た目は同じでも味や食感、調理後の状態など、日本産とはかなり違うものがあります。
