The Release Date

You won't have to wait long for Fortnite to start making waves on Android. If you're planning to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 9, it'll be available for that device as early as August 24th. If not, you'll just have to wait till September 23rd.

As for specs, here’s some more good news: They're relatively low. A phone with at least a quad-core processor, a capable chipset, and 3GB of RAM will be able to play it smoothly. There's an initial list of phones that will be able to play the game. Don't worry if your phone isn't there, though. If the device has at least the same specs (or even better than) those on the list, it may be able to play the game.

Not on Google Play?

In the wake of these announcements, there are rumors that the app won't be available through Google Play Store. This is quite a shocker since it is, after all, how they distributed the game for other consoles. Many speculate that this is due to the fact that Epic Games is trying to avoid the 30% cut from revenue. Sure that's going to raise their profits, but there are a couple of downsides to this that we can think of.

One, it's a big security risk to the users. Even now, hackers are taking advantage of this information to trick players into downloading their virus or malware. They're sending official-looking emails with an ‘invitation' to try out the app. These are fake, so be wary. Don’t get fooled!

Two, it makes installation a tad bit complicated which might turn off some people. Making the game accessible to all kinds of consoles opens it to a wider audience. However, those who are less tech-savvy might keep to the Play Store, thereby closing them off to the game entirely.

At any rate, this off-store distribution might just be a limited time thing, such as for an open beta test. While there are pros and cons to this decision, only time will tell what the end result will be. Still, be careful and be sure of what you’re downloading.

How About iOS?

Those who use Apple products can sign up for invites to download the game on the official site. When you've registered your interest in the app, you'll soon receive an email with a link. That link will then lead to the App Store page of the game where you can promptly download it.

Otherwise, you could have a friend send an invite code to you. The game can actually be downloaded whether you or not you receive an invite. However, you can only access the game if you got an invite code that comes in the email or a friend sent one.

Take note that Fortnite in iOS is still in the testing stages. The number of players will increase as time goes by, but there's no word on the full release yet.

So that's all we know about Fortnite coming to Android. It's just over a month away. Soon you'll be able to bring the game anywhere you go. In the meantime, you can continue playing on your preferred console for around 30 days, right? Be patient and it will come sooner than you expect.

See you on the battle bus soon!
