JettyGirl: While faltering economies, political turmoil and energy issues dominated most of the headlines during the past year, much of 2008's good news slipped through the cracks. What's the best thing that happened to you in 2008 and what are you most hopeful for in 2009?
Kassia Meador: One of the best things to happen in '08 for me was being introduced to the alaia...looking forward to learning to ride it in '09.
JG: Tell us about the first time you ever stood up on a surfboard. Where was it and what were you riding?
KM: Not sure about the standup part but the first time I rode a green wave and stood up out the back was when I was 14 or 15 at La Conchita.
JG: What is your current favorite board? In 2009 do you have any plans to experiment with different surfboard designs, materials or fin configurations?
KM: I have too many favorite boards, they're all fun for different things. I have always experimented with loads of boards and probably always will. It's fun and keeps things fresh.
JG: Do you have any heroes? If so, who and why?
KM: I have loads of heroes...too many to mention.
JG: In 2009 we'll see the best single maneuver ever done by a female surfer. Who do you think will pull the move and what do you think it will be?
KM: Women's surfing is getting crazier all the time and faster than ever before. I think we'll see a few of those craziest moves this year and there are probably gonna be a few of the girls throwing down like Chelsea Hedges, Melanie Bartels, Carissa Moore, Steph Gilmore, and Silvana Lima.
