fashion vs passion
こんにちは。
英語カフェでの一節です。ヨガについて。
S: 外国人スタッフさん、A: お客さん、K: 私
S: Do you play any sports?
K: No, I don't. I just do some exercise in a gym.
S: Ah, nice.
K: You seem you train your muscle a lot.
S: Not so much. But I'm very active. I do many things like yoga, martial arts, and other trainings.
A: I've never tried yoga. What do you do in yoga?
S: It's hard to explain. I try to be as flexible as I can. I'll show you some pictures.
A: Oh, you do yoga in the park. Your joint is very soft.
S: Yeah, I'm very flexible. I don't go to a gym. I train outside.
K: In Japan, many girls do yoga as a hobby.
S: Yeah. But what they do is not a real yoga, but it's a fun yoga. The real yoga is even difficult for me. If I do it, I'm very exhausted.
K: Maybe, they are just doing it as a fashion.
S: Yeah. But a hobby is a hobby. If you have a hobby, whatever you do is good. Of course, even if a girl says "I do yoga", I don't say "No, you don't". I just say "It's nice".
K: They just want to appeal that they are doing fashionable things in their real lives.
S: I think so too. Recently a lot of people do things just for fashion, not for passion.
婚活で多くの女性のプロフィールを見る機会があるのですが、「趣味はヨガです」と書いている人が相当数おられます。
ただ、筋肉ムキムキの外国人スタッフさんに言わせると、それは本当のヨガではなく、楽しむためのヨガということです。
私はヨガの実情を知らないんで、とりあえず、ファッションとしてやってる方が多いのではと言っておきました。（真剣に取り組まれている方がいたらすみません。）
それに対し、外国人スタッフさんは最後に、passion（情熱）ではなくfashionとしてやってると、うまくまとめていました。
なお、婚活のプロフィールに「趣味はカフェ巡りやヨガです」といった、一般的なことを書くのは正しいことのようです。
趣味の内容が具体的すぎると、プロフィールだけで完結してしまい、その先につながりにくいとのこと。一方、抽象的な方が、会って話してみたいという気持ちにつながりやすいとのことです。
