Pull Oneself Together
英語には感情が乱れてしまう表現がたくさんあります。
・blow one's top
「怒りが爆発する、キレる」
・break down
「泣き崩れる」
・fall apart
「くじける、取り乱す」
・go to pieces
「自制心をなくす」
・lose one's head
「気が動転する、度を失う」
などなど。
これらの表現をみてみると、「落ち着いた状態」というのは気持ちが一つにまとまっていて塊のような状態というイメージのようですね。
グラスが落っこちて、割れてしまった場面を思い浮かべてください。
怒ったり、悲しむ精神状態は、ちょうどこんな感じなのです。

だから、感情が乱れるというのは、落ち着いた気持ちがばらばらになってしまう状態なのでしょう。
そんなちらばってしまった感情を一つずつ引っ張ってきて、また一つの塊にまとめるのが
Pull Oneself Together
なのです。
ほら、「冷静になって落ち着く」という意味が見えてきましたね。
自分の感情を抑えて冷静になることを意味しているのです。
Pull yourself together, now. There's no point in crying.
「さあ、落ち着こうよ。泣いてたってしかたないじゃないか。」
この表現は歌詞にもよく使われます。
