touch and go
こんにちは。
今朝はあまり天気がよくなかったですが、だんだん晴れて、日中はいい天気でした。
こんな日を小春日和っていうのでしょうか。
ポカポカして目もトローンとなりそうでした。

あ、寝てませんでしたよ！
大丈夫、大丈夫。
今日の表現はtouch and go。
どんな表現だと思いますか？
ボクは電車に乗るときはPASMOを使っています。
とっても便利ですね。
お金をあらかじめチャージしておけば、あとは機会をタッチするだけ。
まさにtouch and goです。
もともとは飛行機の着陸のやり直しが語源のようです。
初心者のパイロットが飛行機を操縦している場面を想像してみてください。
何度も着陸を試みては失敗し、また上昇。
で、またトライして、また上昇。
なんだか危なっかしいですね。
大丈夫かな？
不安になってしまいますね。
そう、touch and goは「一触即発の、予断を許さない」という意味なのです。
他にも「危険な、大ざっぱな、表面的な」などの意味があります。
でも、イメージとしては先ほどの初心者パイロットの飛行機を思い浮かべましょう。
Funfun was touch and go. But his doctor says he will live.
「ファンファンはやばかったんだ。でも医者がいうには大丈夫らしいよ。」
さらに、touch and goは飛行機の訓練方法でもあります。
滑走路に着陸した後、すぐに離陸する基礎訓練です。
離陸、上昇、旋回、水平飛行、降下、着陸など、あらゆる要素が含まれていて、何度も繰り返すことで操縦技術が磨かれるのだそうです。
百聞は一見にしかず。
