先週末、名和晃平氏率いるSANDWICHの展覧会に行ってきた。
名和氏といえばこの作品。

この作品をどこかで目にしてから一瞬で彼のファンに。
“Love at first site” is the perfect word to describe my feeling of when I first met his artwork (above).
その時からずっと自分の目で見てみたいと思っていたら、GYREで展示会がっ。
これはマスト！と思い早速初日に行ってきた。
会場の入り口には製作中の「Direction」シリーズ。
15度に傾けたキャンパスに絵の具の自重だけで描くペインティング。とても絵の具の自重だけで描いたとは思えない程、計算されたような美しさ。この作品がプリントされたiphoneカバーも会場内で販売されている。
At the entrance, you’ll find the huge art called “Direction” painted only by the weight of paints on the canvas that is tilted 15 degrees. Despite it’s non-artificial way, this art is amazingly beautiful as if every stripes are calculated. These prints are printed on iphone cover and are sold inside of the gallery.

ギャラリー内に足を踏み入れると—待ってました。自分の目で見たかったあの「PixCell」シリーズ。こちらも制作途中。インターネットを介して収集したオブジェの表面をビーズで覆い「映像の細胞」に置き換えるというアート。ここに展示されていたのは鹿の剥製の表面をビーズで覆った作品。
Stepping into the gallery — being welcomed by my favorite artwork, the objet from the “PixCell” series.
Kohei Nawa uses glass beads, prisms, glue, plaster, and spray foam to cover the surface of objects found from internet, and replace their original existence into new vision of “the cell of an image” (PixCell).

製作中との事でまだ黄色いテープが・・・次は是非とも完成品を見たい！それにしてもPixCellシリーズは圧巻。セル＝細胞を表す一つ一つのビーズもその置かれる位置が全て計算されていて細かい。光の当たる具合によっても反射する部分と影になる部分が変わり、自分の見ている位置が1cmズレるだけで全く表情が変わる。ずっと見ていても飽きない作品ってどれだけあるだろうか—間違いなくこのPixCellシリーズはその一つだと思う。（家に欲しい！）
This work was still in progress, so hope to see its completed form with my own eyes someday. Even though it was unfinished, thesePixCell series are deserve to be called a “masterpiece”.
Position of the beads one by one are all calculated and it’s very fine and delicate. Depends on where you stand, the expression completely changes by the light reflection. I literally can spend whole day just looking at these works. (I wish I could have one at my place…)
会場内には、2011年に韓国のチョナン市に恒久設置された巨大彫刻の「Manifold」の1/30の模型も展示されている。また名和氏のアートプロジェクトやインスタレーションの記録、そして「SANDWICH」の活動記録も見る事が出来る。会場内の壁には、「SANDWICH」で開発されたさまざまなマテリアルやテクスチャのサンプルも展示されている。
In this gallery, there are many artworks besides the ones from SANDWICH project such as “Manifold”, the sculpture model which was permanently installed in Korea in 2011, or video recording of installation art and projects of Mr.Nawa.
This show will be held until Feb.16th,2014 at the EYE OF GYRE.
