相手に何かを指示する際に、「われわれに選択肢はない。」「この命令は絶対だ。」というような強いニュアンスが加わります。

似たような意味では、下記のような例文が思いつきます。
We have no option.
There is no option.
（選択の余地がない。）
You have no choice but to follow his orders.
彼の命令に従うしか（選択肢が）ない。
では、
That’s not an option.
とは、どういう意味でしょう？
これは、「選択肢の中にない」ということ。つまり、「絶対に嫌だ」「絶対に駄目だ」「考えられない」というような意味になります。
“Going out in this cold weather is not an option.”
（この寒い中、外に出かけるのは絶対に嫌だ。）
“If that’s not your option, then why don’t you stay home and play Nintendo.”
（それが嫌なら、家で任天堂のゲームでもしていれば？）
