The question of Byron's The Vision of Judgment is partially piece of writing and in some measure political, but its spring was Byron's odium of Cant and pretense.
On the alteration of King George III, old, mad, and blind, in 1820, the Poet Laureate Robert Southey produced a complimentary verse. Written in unrhymed hexameter, its attempts at gallantry achieved no more than than a unoriginal affectation. But far worse was its dissembling and fawning timbre.
