We had a discussion about studying abroad in long-term or in short-term.
Fortunately, we had each speaker almost equally.

Group A

Opinions from short-term supporters
*We cannot ignore money problem.
*Even several weeks, we can make friends, get used to culture, improve skills.
*Our major is more important than foreign languages.
*Not good to be absent from university.
*For learning languages, stay is just preparation.

Opinions from long-term supporters
*As much as we paid, we can learn.
*To know real culture, short-term is not enough.
*Short-term can be a sightseeing.

What we want to study is important.
The period is not big problem but what we go study is on issue.


Group B

Opinions from short-term supporters
*Much cheaper than long-term.
*Do not feel lonely.
*Graduate our own university has priority.
*Long-term has financial risk.
*Anyway we can change our mind.


Opinions from long-term supporters
*Learning culture takes time.
*We need to be shocked in our stay.
*There a lot of opportunities and experiences.
*We can retry even if we came across difficulties.
**Sometimes it is difficult to catch up with class.


Group D

Opinions from short-term supporters
*University life is more important.
*Do not have to worry about money.
**Can be just experience.

Opinions from long-term supporters
*We can be like a native speaker.
*Improve skills effectively.
*We can be familiar with anything surrounding us.
**Risk of homesick, survive etc.

The term depends on the motivation of person.
We have to have a definite purpose to study.

Activity of 5/27

I had a free-talk about why we are studying English.
We could hear a lot of kinds of motivation.
It was a very good exercise.
All of us could rethink the reason why we are studying English.
Other students opinion made us more motivated, too.

Next week, we will have a free-talk about same topic but among different members in a group.
Please think about what you will talk about as concretely as possible.

Good evening. This is Dai.
Today, we had a "model discussion" of 5 people.
The theme is "English education until second year".
Three were agree and one was disagree.
These are main points.

<Agree>
As most spoken in business, we can not ignore.
We have to skill up our English.
Language class is not helpful so we should students more motivated.

Thinking about the job, the communication skill in English has merits.
Studying two year is better than one year.

English is a prospective language.
Students who study English are the most motivated.

<Disagree>
Not English but our major has priority.
The number of application for Intensive course was small.
That means student do not want to keep on studying English.

<Through discussion>
Sometimes English is as important as major.
>>English can be selective major.

If we continue, the point is how often we have class?
Twice will be the minimum number to maintain and improve ability.
>>Fundamentally, few students want to study, "how many" is not matter.
>>Thinking about second foreign language situation, English is better than second foreign language.
