Schleck gets 2010 Tour de France jersey
MONDORF-LES-BAINS, Luxembourg - Almost two years late, Andy Schleck got his yellow jersey for winning the 2010 Tour de France on Tuesday as a result of Alberto Contador being stripped of the title for failing a doping test.
Schleck finished second in the race and has repeatedly said the decision to give him the title felt like a hollow victory since he did not secure it on the grueling roads of France. Contador lost the title when sports' highest court in February rejected his story that Brian Orakpo Jerseys
contaminated meat caused the failed drug test.
"It is not the same as to take the jersey on a podium in the tour, you don't have the podium girls, everything around is different," Schleck said.
The jersey was handed over to the Luxembourger during Tuesday's ceremony, attended by Tour de France organizers. It came on the eve of the Tour de Luxembourg, a preparatory race for this year's Tour de France, which starts June 30.
"It is two years after but I will never forget this tour it has been a very good tour," Schleck said.
Contador, who also won the Tour in 2007 and '09, tested positive for clenbuterol during a Tour rest day in July 2010. He was still considered the winner when the Tour ended that year.
"I was standing second on the podium, then the Contador case came up," Schleck said. "It was not me who took the decision so naturally I move up and I win the tour."
The CAS verdict in Lausanne, Switzerland, was delivered 566 days after Contador cycled triumphantly along the Champs d'Elysees in Paris.
"The lag is too big" for Schleck to get his jersey only now, Tour de France manager Christian Prud'homme said. "Sports authorities must work on reducing this lag in case of cases just like this one," he said after the jersey was put on Schleck.
This year, Contador has already missed the Giro d'Italia because of looming suspension. He will also miss the Tour de France and the London Olympics, but can ride in the Spanish Vuelta, which begins Aug. 18.
Brooklyn Nets unveil new logo, jersey colours
NEW YORK - The developer and owner of Brooklyn's new Barclays Center believes his state-of-the-art facility can hold hockey for more than just a passing game or two.
Bruce Ratner, who will welcome the NBA's Nets to Brooklyn next season, is hopeful of the arena's potential NHL prospects as well, perhaps even the New York Islanders, who are looking for a new home. In fact, the building already has ice and locker rooms for both sports.
"(Barclays Center) was made for hockey and basketball," Ratner told the Associated Press. "It could easily support a hockey team."
Ratner was in attendance Monday at the unveiling of the Brooklyn Nets' logo, along with CEO Brett Yormark, general manager Billy King, coach Avery Johnson, and centre Brook Lopez of the Nets, as well as NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver.

Team owner Charles Wang and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman have been adamant that the Islanders will not play in the Coliseum after that point, although both have reiterated their desire to keep the Islanders in the New York City area.
The Coliseum, which houses the Islanders' four Stanley Cup championship banners from its rafters, is the second oldest active arena in the NHL, next to the recently renovated Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Rangers.
Nassau County residents voted down a proposal that would allow the county to earmark $ 400 million in borrowing for a new coliseum and a minor league baseball park last August. And Wang's Lighthouse Project aimed at a new arena, which would have been privately funded, never made it past the proposal stage.
Bettman is hopeful the Islanders can stay on Long Island, one way or the other. Though, he is open to change, if needed. On April 20, in a meeting with the Associated Press Sports Editors, he approached the topic.
"Barclays, I suppose," he said, "on some level, is an option."
But he also stuck to his stance that a franchise with plenty of history and tradition - four Cups, five conference titles and six division crowns - should stay on Long Island. The Islanders finished the regular season at 34-37-11, and missed the playoffs for the fifth straight year.
"We're going to do everything possible to figure out a way to make this work here," Bettman said. "And if we're unsuccessful at some point, then we'd have to consider the (relocation) options.
"But we're not anywhere near that."

Cardinals to retire La Russa's No. 10 jersey
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Cardinals are wasting no time honouring Tony La Russa, announcing they will retire their former manager's No. 10 later this month.
La Russa retired last fall after leading the franchise to a second World Series title in his 16 seasons. He left the game ranked third all time in managerial victories, trailing Connie Mack and John McGraw.
The jersey will be retired May 11 prior to the Cardinals' game against the Atlanta Braves.
La Russa is working as a consultant with Major League Baseball, and will manage the National League All-Star team at this year's All-Star game in Kansas City on July 10.
"Tony's managerial tenure with the Cardinals will always stand out as one of the greatest Brian Orakpo Jerseys eras in Cardinals history," chairman and CEO Bill DeWitt, Jr., Said. "His passion for winning and his leadership skills were hallmarks of a style that Cardinals fans will always remember with fondness. "
La Russa's uniform No. 10 will become the 12th retired by the Cardinals and the first since Whitey Herzog's No. 24 in 2010. La Russa will join Herzog as the only managers who did not play for the team to have their uniform numbers retired. Red Schoendienst (No. 2 in 1996), Ken Boyer (No. 14 in 1984) and Rogers Hornsby both played and managed for the Redbirds.
La Russa holds the franchise record with 1,408 managing wins and produced eight division titles, three NL pennants and championships in 2006 and 2011.
He's also second on the career list with 5,097 games managed, including the White Sox (1979-86) and Oakland A's (1986-95).

Jays' Bautista sheds jersey for 'Body Issue'
NEW YORK - Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista is among the athletes who will strip down to pose in ESPN The Magazine's fourth annual "Body Issue."
New York Rangers forward Brad Richards and NFL stars Rob Gronkowski and Maurice Jones-Drew will also appear in the July 13 edition.
With the London Games this summer, the list announced Wednesday is heavy with Olympians, including gymnast Danell Leyva, sprinter Carmelita Jeter, decathlete Brian Orakpo Jerseys Ashton Eaton and members of the US women's volleyball team.
The magazine's editor in chief, Chad Millman, says they try to pick athletes who "just recently popped."
Gronkowski is a classic example of that. The New England Patriots tight end emerged as one of the NFL's biggest offensive stars this past season - and it doesn't hurt that he has a penchant for appearing shirtless in photos. The magazine had a commitment from him way back last fall.
Athletes featured in previous years have included Blake Griffin, Hope Solo and Jose Reyes.

Fil-Ams flock to 'Three's Company' concert in New Jersey
Ludi de Asis Hughes, possibly the most prominent Filipina political fundraiser in New Jersey, was at front row clapping to the rhythm, tapping her feet and laughing at every campy joke dished out by Ai-Ai de las Alas.
She and thousands others turned out for the April 29 Martin Nievera-Pops Fernandez concert at Atlantic City's Taj Mahal Casino, marking the musical comeback of the formerly married couple.
A self-confessed "diehard Martin fan," Hughes said she enjoyed herself immensely. "'Be my Lady' is my favorite number in the show," said the founder of the Asian-American Chamber of Commerce in New Jersey.
The "Three's Company" concert, which set the mood for some faux flirting by the ex-spouses, was a success based on the FilAms who were there.
"Seeing Martin and Pops together was a special moment," said Miguel Braganza, a director-choreographer. "Ai-Ai was a riot."
Realtor Corazon Rivera who came with a dozen of her friends said she was touched by the couple's "sweetness" on stage, reminiscent of a time in their youth when they were the Philippines' top pop duo. "I was touched by what Pops has told she said.">of Martin that she can only remember the beautiful things her ex-husband and her have shared together. I admire her for saying that, it takes a lot of courage to say that, "she said.
Pageant producer Danny Pagsambugan said the couple showed utmost professionalism on stage, and "didn't have inhibitions cracking jokes about each other."

The event was marred by Ai-Ai stomping out when security hustled her boyfriend out of the ballroom during a meet-and-greet. The circumstances were not clear, but this happened as the comic was signing autographs.
"He's my boyfriend," yelled the Comedy Concert Queen at least five times.
The security didn't budge. The furious Ai-Ai slapped the table to everyone's surprise, stood up and rushed to chase her man. Everyone thought it was part of an act, Ai-Ai known for her racy, often off-color humor . Until Martin and Pops called for help and producer Anna Puno came out. Some 20 minutes later, all's well and Ai-Ai was reunited with her boyfriend.
Said Maria Ferrone of Paterson School in New Jersey, "Ai-Ai provided a lot of comic relief."
The musical numbers of Martin and Pops - duet and solo - brought back a lot of good memories for many FilAms in the audience, said Dennis Sy, who provided backup vocals. Songs like "Each Day With You," "How Can I" and "Be My Lady" brought tears to some.
Martin and Pops "epitomize the best in world-caliber talent in the field of music and entertainment that the Philippines has to offer," he said.
