It is good for dancers to know anatomy of your body.
And I think it must be seen from several perspectives physically and psychologically and then integrate them in.
When I was in NY, I went to Pilates studio and studied core integration of mat Pilates.
In those days I thought that I can use the Pilates method, like breathing, when I dance.
But it was not right because your movement will be stuffed with those breathings. Pilates is just one of aspects which can be used in particular situation.
So I asked my Jazz dance teacher about breathing for dancers. At that time, she suddenly took my arm and started running like Forrest Gump. And shouted "This is how you breath Orie!!"
I totally understood. It was very natural.
"Being humanly natural with your body" is one of the most important things for any people. And it is difficult for everyone. You know, we have been unnatural since human beings started walking by 2 feet. A 5kg head is burden to your neck, shoulders, lower back, pelvis, knees and ankles each time you move.
To get to know your natural alignment and movement, you can approach from muscles and bones, nerves, breatings, images, joints ,,,, there are so many aspects.
And great instructors really know which to use in any situation for any person.
These days, I am into focus my alignment and movement on "pelvis".
I felt it really good when I took the Franklin method last year. I even bought a book.
And my ballet teacher who I respect also very familiar with this method.
Every time after I take her ballet barre, my body is very light and natural. Because her barre lessons are so focused on moving and flexing inside our pelvis.
Since I realized this fact, I can't stop feeling inside muscles of my pelvis.
My favorite aspect.
Well, that's all for my boom and recommendation these days *:)
have a good dream
