What Is Nylon?

Polyamide is commonly known as nylon (Nylon), and the English name Polyamide (referred to as PA) refers to a plastic composed of polyamide resin. This kind of resin can be prepared by polycondensation of diamine and dibasic acid, or by ring-opening polymerization of lactam formed after dehydration of amino acid. Unlike PS, PE, PP, etc., CNC PA does not gradually change with the increase of heating temperature. Soften, but soften in a narrow temperature range close to the melting point, the melting point is obvious, melting point: 215-225 ° C. Flow occurs once the temperature is reached.

CNC Nylon engineering plastics are horny, tough, bright surface, white (or light white) or yellowish, transparent or translucent crystalline resin, which can be painted in any color easily. As an engineering plastic, the molecular weight of CNC machining nylon is generally 15,000-30,000. Their density is slightly greater than 1, density: 1.14-1.15g/cm3. Tensile strength: > 60.0MPa. Elongation: > 30 percent. Bending strength: 90.0MPa. Notched impact strength: (kJ/m2) > 5.

The shrinkage rate of nylon cnc machining is 1 to 2. Pay attention to the dimensional change after moisture absorption after molding. Water absorption rate 100% can absorb 8% when relative moisture absorption is saturated. The use temperature can be between -40105. Melting point: 215-225°C. The suitable wall thickness is 2-3.5mm. Among the mechanical properties of CNC machining PA, the tensile and compressive strength changes with temperature and moisture absorption, so water is relatively a plasticizer for PA. After adding glass fiber, its tensile and compressive strength can be improved About 2 times, the temperature resistance is also improved accordingly. CNC PA itself has very high anti-wear ability, so it can be operated without lubrication. If you want to obtain a special lubrication effect, you can add sulfide to PA.

CNC Nylon Molding and Post-processing

Except for transparent nylon, other custom nylon parts are crystalline plastics with high melting points, narrow melting temperature ranges and poor thermal stability. CNC PA is easy to absorb moisture. During the molding process of CNC nylon, the viscosity drops sharply and silver threads appear on the surface of the product mixed with air bubbles, and the mechanical strength of the product decreases. Therefore, nylon plastic parts need to be dried before processing. The machinable nylon can be dried at 80-110°C for 6 hours. The allowable moisture content of nylon 6 and nylon 66 during molding is 0.1%, nylon 11 is 0.15%, nylon 610 is 0.1% to 0.15%, and shall not exceed 0.2%. Note that PA plastics are prone to discoloration when dried above 90°C.

PA has good fluidity and is easy to overflow. The CNC machining PA is suitable to use a self-locking nozzle and heat it. At the same time, due to the rapid condensation of the melt, it is necessary to prevent the material from blocking the nozzle, runner, gate, etc., causing insufficient products. The mold overflow value is 0.03, and the melt viscosity is sensitive to temperature and shear force changes, but it is more sensitive to temperature. To reduce the melt viscosity, start with the barrel temperature. The molding shrinkage range and shrinkage rate are large, the directionality is obvious, and shrinkage cavity and deformation are easy to occur. The use of custom nylon recycled materials can be no more than three times, so as not to cause discoloration of the product or a sharp drop in mechanical and physical properties. The application amount should be controlled below 25%. Too much will cause fluctuations in process conditions. Mixing of recycled materials and new materials needs to be carried out dry.

Nylon 6 vs Nylon 66

The difference between machining nylon 6 and machining nylon 66 is the difference in temperature resistance, impact resistance, dissolution resistance, and moisture absorption properties. The main difference between them is the difference in temperature resistance, impact resistance, dissolution resistance, and moisture absorption properties. Nylon 6 has a slightly lower temperature resistance than nylon 66. Nylon 66 parts has a higher temperature resistance. CNC machining nylon 6 has better impact resistance and dissolution resistance than nylon 66, and is also more hygroscopic. Nylon 6 is more absorbent than custom nylon 66. Nylon 6 has thermal stability, dimensional stability, high surface quality, and low warpage.
