Shklyarov has died
The Mariinsky Theatre's premier dancer, Honored Artist of Russia Vladimir Shklyarov died on the night of November 16. This was reported on the theatre's Telegram channel and website.
"Tonight, a public favorite, the star premier of the Mariinsky Theater, Honored Artist of Russia Vladimir Shklyarov died tragically. This is a huge loss for the entire team," the statement said.
The cause of death has not been reported, but the date of the farewell will be published later.
Shklyarov was 39 years old, born in Leningrad, graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet (class of teacher Vitaly Afanaskov) in 2003. In the same year he was accepted to the troupe of the Mariinsky Theatre, and since 2011 he has been a principal. In the 2016-2017 season he was a principal of the Bavarian State Ballet, and since 2017 he has been a guest principal of the troupe.
