it was another say of visiting relatives.. though this time the ones who live in Jakarta
heard on the news that every day 900 motorbikes get registered ![]()
check this out:
people selling food on the side street.. very common
old buildings from the Dutch colonisation
i had a ride on one of these last time i was here.. OMG your tummy churns... they swoop in between cars and the gas from the engine smells so toxic... its also nosy with no doors.. yet this method of transportation gets you from A to B quicker than a car! now you can see the road is shared with bikes, motorbikes, cars and trucks and these things....
Batavia hotel.. building remains from the Dutch times
saw heaps of people making their homes on the streets out of cardboard. They come from the country side and work in the city to make a living this way
the second half of the day we headed to Bogor.. which is about 1hr drive from Jakarta... yep more travelling
its much quieter in this town...
and cooler... one this about this place is that it rains everyday ![]()
got to our first destination... my aunts home in this town...
its time for fruit.... haven't eaten these for days... salak... flesh is dry and looks like garlic.. i'm not a fan of it.. has a weird taste i can't describe... to me it tastes like sweet paint.. not that i've eaten paint :P
markisa... looks like passionfuit and has seeds like it...actually i'm not sure whether this is the local passionfruit....the outside is a different colour to the ones you can buy in aust, though its not sour and the seeds aren't as hard..
mangosteen... i can't get it easily in Aust and kinda rare ... i love this fruit.. juicy and sweet with this thirst quenching taste
then off to our uncles house, it started to rain and thunder
.. get this, the guy is stopping traffic and letting the car get onto the road.. you gotta tip him tho
then flood...
then more eating... possibly made from glutinous flour noodles with palm sugar/coconut sauce and egg martabak.... my sis is such an egg person so the loves the egg
crispy crackers... its equivalent to eating chips for indonesians
my uncle's wife makes cakes/biscuits... check these out:
choco chip cookies
pinapple cakes
icing dusted biscuits which melt in your mouth...
then headed back to Jakarta.. finally got to check out Grand Indonesia shopping mall
you gotta get screened before you enter this shopping mall.. just like the hotel
kids mini theme park
strawberry shapped rides... how cute
and another ones which plays music and the water spurts with the tune
all this in a shopping mall... and there was more but didn't have time to see the rest =(
then it was a final dinner with more relos
gado gado.. peanut sauce salad
rujak.. another salad but with meat.. but the sauce is slightly diff..
sop buntut... vege soup with ox tail
satay
then the next morning was to the airport
of course my sis couldn't resist
oh my there is half and egg in the curry puff with chicken
