セルフライナーノーツ「VENUS」「TANGO DIABLO」

本日のセルフライナーノーツは、「VENUS」と「TANGO DIABLO」。

これは濃いライナーノーツになりそうな予感です。笑

Today's self-written liner notes are for “VENUS” and “TANGO DIABLO”.

This is shaping up to be some deep liner notes. lol

まずは「VENUS」。

この曲は今回のアルバムの中で一番最初にできた曲なんじゃないかな？

大地を這うような重たいグルーヴの曲が作りたくて生まれたよ。

眩しすぎるVENUSを奪ってしまいたい。許されないことだとしても。

曲が生まれた頃よりも今現在の方が、ジョウの歌もキャラクターが濃くなってきているから、

この曲の主人公の熱烈な想いも(良い意味で)さらに暑苦しくなっていて大変大変。笑

見事に歌いこなしてくれたジョウさん…最高です。笑

First up is “VENUS".

This song was probably the very first one created for this album, right?

It was born from wanting to make a song with a heavy groove that crawls across the earth.

"I want to steal that blindingly bright VENUS. Even if it's something I shouldn't do."

Compared to when the song was first created, both Jyo's singing and character have become more pronounced now,

so the protagonist's passionate feelings in this song have also become (in a good way) even more intense and overwhelming. lol

Jyo sang it perfectly... It's amazing. 

この曲はずっとバンドサウンドのみで演奏してきたけれど、今回レコーディングをするにあたって、

サウンドプロデューサーの成田忍さんが更にカオスなグルーヴをシンセで足してくれました。

特に猶人のベースとの相性が最高なので、お酒を飲みながらこの曲を聴いたら重低音で気持ちよくなれそうです。

We've always played this song with just the band sound, but for this recording session,

sound producer Shinobu Narita added an even more chaotic groove with synths.

It pairs especially well with Naoto's bass, so if you listen to this song while drinking, the deep bass sound should make you feel pretty good.

そしてお次は問題作の「TANGO DIABLO」。

この曲は「激動」と同じくコロナ禍に制作過程を動画で公開していた曲です。

あの時からこの曲は異端児で、またmikoがとんでもないものを作ってきた、と言われていましたが…

まさに私が全力で作る、シアトリカルなexist†traceの最新作！って感じだね。

「VENUS」と同じくジョウの歌の表現力が更に増したことで、この「TANGO DIABLO」の主人公も、とてつもないキャラクターになっちゃいました。笑

私が一番好きな部分はジョウが「あなたに捧ぐ この愛を全て」と歌い出すところです。

個人的にここがこの曲の一番のハイライトだと思ってます。笑

And next up is the controversial “TANGO DIABLO.”

Like “Gekido,” this song's production process was documented in videos during the pandemic.

Even back then, people said this song was an outlier, that miko had created something utterly insane...

It truly feels like the latest theatrical exist†trace masterpiece, made with my absolute all!

Just like “VENUS,” Jyo's vocal expressiveness has grown even more, turning the protagonist of this “TANGO DIABLO” into an absolutely incredible character. lol

My absolute favorite part is when Jyo starts singing, “I dedicate this love to you, all of it.” (It's in Japanese)

Personally, I think this is the song's biggest highlight. lol

サウンド的にはアルゼンチンタンゴの楽曲をイメージして、バンドネオンやピアノをふんだんに入れたのも楽しかったな。

このアルバムは色んな国の雰囲気を纏った曲が多いので、11曲全部聴いたら世界旅行気分になれるかも？笑

Musically, I had fun imagining Argentine tango pieces and incorporating lots of bandoneon and piano.

Since this album has many songs with atmospheres from various countries, listening to all 11 tracks might make you feel like you're on a world trip? lol

昨日から始まった新アルバム「WHO I AM」のセルフライナーノーツ企画。

本日は「REMEMBER ME」、そして「激動」をご紹介していきます！

The self-liner notes project for the new album “WHO I AM” launched yesterday.

Today I'll introduce “REMEMBER ME” and “Gekido”!

「REMEMBER ME」

この曲は案外前に作ったもので、結構ライブでも演奏しているから聴き馴染みがもうある人も多いのかな。

私のギターリフから始まる、exist†traceらしいハード&キャッチーなナンバーです！

あのリフは演奏していてすごく気持ちいいので、ギター弾ける人はぜひ！

exist†traceはギター2人が1音下げチューニングの6弦、ベースがレギュラーチューニングの5弦です。

This song was actually written quite a while ago, and we've played it live quite a bit, so I guess a lot of you might already be familiar with it.

It's a hard-hitting yet catchy number that starts with my guitar riff—a classic exist†trace sound!

That riff feels amazing to play, so if you can play guitar, definitely give it a try!

For reference, exist†trace uses guitars tuned down one semitone with 6-string, and a bass tuned to standard 5-string tuning.

この曲のタイトルがディズニー映画「リメンバー・ミー」と被っているのは本当にたまたまなのですが、

内容的にはちょっとだけシンクロする部分があるかもしれない。

The title of this song coinciding with the Disney movie “Coco” is truly just a coincidence,

but thematically, there might be a slight overlap.

この曲を作ったきっかけは私の父の死でした。

元々私と父は折り合いが悪く、ほとんど会話もすることはなかったんだ。

そんな父はガンを患っていて、だから余計に死への恐怖を感じていたみたい。

その感情を書き連ねたものを父の死後に読んで、あんなにわがままに生きた人も死ぬのは怖いんだなと、そういうものかと受け取りました。

私も死ぬのは怖いし、大切な人たちと離れるのもいやだ。

でも命がなくなることよりも、忘れられてしまうこと、忘れてしまうことが、一番恐ろしいことだと思っています。

The reason I wrote this song was my father's death.

My father and I never really got along, and we hardly ever spoke.

He had cancer, and I think that made him fear death even more.

After he died, I read what he'd written about those feelings, and I realized that even someone who lived so selfishly was afraid of dying. That's just how it is.

I'm afraid of dying too, and I hate the thought of being separated from the people I care about.

But more than losing my life, I think the most terrifying thing is being forgotten, or forgetting.

「REMEMBER ME」、私を忘れないで。

私はあなたを忘れないし、私は忘れられないような人でいよう。

私の生き方のひとつの形を曲にできたかな。

REMEMBER ME, don't forget me.

I won't forget you, and I'll be someone you can't forget.

I wonder if I could turn one form of my way of living into a song.

そして「激動」。

この曲はコロナ禍で、exist†traceのファンクラブ内で制作過程を公開した曲たちのひとつ。

デモの段階からミーティングを経て、メンバーそれぞれが音を重ねて行く様子を動画で公開しているので、

そんな楽曲「激動」はタイトルの通り激しいサウンドの曲で、冒頭からそれぞれのフレーズが組み合わさった面白いアレンジに仕上がっています。

コロナ禍で感じた不自由さ、不安感、閉塞感、それをかき消すように、叫べ。

キミの想いは止めなくていい。

そんな気持ちを届けたくて作りました。

コロナだけでなく色んな不自由さを感じるこの時代でも、私たちらしくあなたらしく生きていこうね。

The song “Gekido” lives up to its title with its intense sound, featuring an interesting arrangement where each phrase intertwines from the very start.

Scream to drown out the restrictions, anxiety, and suffocation felt during the pandemic.

You don't have to hold back your feelings.

I created this song to convey that sentiment.

Even in these times filled with various constraints beyond just COVID, let's keep living as ourselves, you and me.

お久しぶり！！

It's been a very long time since I last wrote a blog post. Long time no see!!




この度、11/19に11年ぶりのニューアルバム「WHO I AM」をリリースいたします！

リリースに先駆けて、ここではセルフライナーノーツを公開しようと思います。

XやインスタなどSNSは沢山あるけど、ブログは読み物として数年後もまた気軽に読み返せるから、

未来で「WHO I AM」に出会ってくれた人がここに辿り着いてくれるといいな、という想いも込めて。

This time, on November 19th, We are releasing our new album, “WHO I AM”!

Ahead of the release, I'd like to share my self-written liner notes here.

While there are many social media platforms like X and Instagram, blogs are something you can easily revisit years later as something to read.

I also hope that someone who encounters “WHO I AM” in the future will find their way here.

まず本日は、アルバム名を関したこの楽曲からご紹介していきます。

「WHO I AM」

First up today, I'll start with this song that shares the album's name.

“WHO I AM”




"WHO AM I"ではなく、"WHO I AM"

私は誰なんだろう？じゃなくて、私が誰なのか。

そんな堅苦しそうなタイトルをつけたこの曲は、このアルバムを作るために生まれた曲でした。

他の曲はここ数年で生まれ、ライブでもう披露してきた現役曲たち。

単体で意思を持ってバラバラに生まれた曲たちを連れて、先頭を歩く役割を持つ曲を生み落とすのは大変だったけど、

作りたいものは最初からはっきり決まっていたかな。

Not “WHO AM I,” but “WHO I AM”

This song, bearing such a seemingly stiff title, was born specifically to create this album.

The other songs were born over the past few years and are active tracks already performed live.

It was tough bringing together songs that were born separately with their own wills and creating a song to lead them,

but I think what I wanted to create was clear from the start.




今年で21周年を迎えた私たちは、今まで色んなものを乗り越えてきました。

その度「負けてたまるか」「何度倒れても立ち上がれ」そんな自分たちの想いを、楽曲でも表現し届けてきました。

そして今、私たちが大切にしているのは、何かと戦う以上に、自分自身と向き合い、自分の想いに嘘をつかず進みたい、ということなんだ。

だから今回曲を作るときにすっと「WHO I AM」って言葉が出てきたんだ。

This year marks our 21st anniversary, and we've overcome so many things along the way.

Each time, we've expressed our determination through our music—that spirit of “I refuse to lose” and “No matter how many times we fall, we'll get back up”

And now, what matters most to us isn't just fighting against something, but facing ourselves, staying true to our feelings, and moving forward without compromise.

That's why when I started creating this song, the words “WHO I AM” just flowed out naturally.




誰のためでもなく自分のために叫んでいい。

過去の自分を愛し慰めていい。

全てを認めて全てを連れて、明日の自分に会いに行け。

私自身、そして聴いてくれた全ての人が次の一歩を強く踏み出せるように、願いをこめてこの曲を贈りたい。

It's okay to scream for yourself, not for anyone else.

It's okay to love and comfort your past self.

Embrace everything, carry everything with you, and go meet tomorrow's self.

I want to offer this song with my heartfelt wish that I myself, and everyone who listened, can take the next step forward with strength.






サウンド面の話をすると、この曲は歌詞先行で作った曲なんだけど、

元々こんなサウンドの曲を作りたいなって思ってはいたんだ。

バンドのグルーブを聴かせるパートと、シンセ類が引き立つ音数の少ないパートが交互に来る感じ。

現時点でまだライブでは1回しか演奏していないけれど、

サビの「WOW〜」のところはみんなも歌いながら手を挙げたら気持ちよさそうだなと思ってます。

これからきっと沢山演奏していくので、一緒に育てていこうね。

Talking about the sound, this song was created with the lyrics first, but I'd always wanted to make a song with this kind of sound.

It alternates between parts showcasing the band's groove and parts with fewer sounds where the synths really shine.

We've only played it live once so far, but I think it'd feel great if everyone sang along and raised their hands during the “WOW~” part of the chorus.

We'll definitely play it a lot from now on, so let's grow it together.
