ブログのタイトルだけで十分かもしれないが、先生として一番初めの授業にするのはやっぱり自己紹介だ。
30代のフランス人で、来日は4年前だが、日本語はその前大学で英語と一緒に専攻した。
日本に興味を持つ兄妹や漫画の影響で自分も子供のころから興味を持っていて、きっかけがあったからなんとなく日本語を勉強し始めた。
英語は日本人みたいに中学校からずっと習い続けたけど、フランス人だから苦手(というよりも下手)だった。フランス人は文化的に外国語(特に英語)をしゃべることを嫌がる。
けど今は日本で英語を教える仕事している。もちろんみんなに聞かれる質問は同じ。
「なんでフランス語教えないの？」
別にフランス語を教えることは嫌じゃないけど①習いたい人が少ないし、フランス人の先生が多い。②ネイティブだからこそ母国語のほうが教えにくい。
しかも年がたつにつれ英語を段々好きになった。
ポイントは英語が中学生時代の時に、嫌いで全くできなかったけど、今は全く逆になった。今はTOEICの990点と英検1級も持つまでになった。
ある人は「けどフランス語と英語は似ているからずるい」と。それはそうだが、いつも楽なわけでもない。
それでも日・英と比べたら、確かに全然簡単。日・仏は同じぐらい違うと思う。
つまり、日本人の悩みはある程度理解できると思う。
このブログで自分の今までの経験やそれに対しての意見をシェアしたい。もちろん英語、日本語、フランス語とそれぞれの異文化についても書くつもり。
Self Introduction
The title should be explanatory enough (for those reading Japanese that is), but as a teacher, self introductions are what I always start my very first class with.
I'm a French guy in his thirties and I came living in Japan 4 years ago, but Japanese, alongside English, was part of my major at university.
Throught the influence of my siblings who always were interested in Japan, and of manga, I have been interested in Japan since my childhood. As I was given the chance to, I started to study Japanese.
As for English, just like Japanese students, I started at Jr high but, being French, I was kind of bad at it (or rather I s*cked at it). Culturaly speaking, French dislike speaking a foreign language (especially English).
However, it's not French but English that I'm teaching for a living here in Japan. Of course, everybody asks me the same question:
"Why don't you teach French?"
It's not that I don't like teaching French but first, there are too few people wanting to learn for too many French ready to teach them and second, it is all the more because French is my mother tongue that I find it harder to teach.
The point is, as a Jr high schooler I hated English and couldn't communicate at all, but now is the complete opposite. I got a full score on my TOEIC, and even passed the grade 1 of Eiken.
Some told me it was unfair because French and English are very similar. That's true they share some similarities, but it doesn't always make thing easier.
Still, when you compare Japanese and English, being French definitely made it easier. These two languages are about as different as Japanese and French I think.
What I'm trying to say is that I feel I can understand the struggle many Japanese experience to some extent.
On this blog, I want to share my experience up to this day and my reflexions upon it. Of course, I also plan to write about English, Japanese, French and cultural differences.
