A few hours after leaving Taraz we arrived at the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan border. Very few formalities here: without even having our bags checked we were waved on to Kyrgyzstan.
タラズを出てから数時間後、カザフスタン-キルギスタン国境に到着。そこで出国・入国審査を経ていよいよキルギスタンへ。荷物検査も無く、すんなり入国。
But it’s good thing there is a border post because otherwise we don’t know how we would know that we had entered another country: everything from the scenery on was the same as in Kazakhstan. Suppose that’s to be an expected result from Soviet map-drawing, but we couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.
…でも国境を超えた気がしない。風景が全然変わらない。新しい国に入ったという実感ゼロ。元々同じソ連共和国だったので仕方ないかもしれないが、あまりの変化のなさに少し拍子抜けしてしまった。
And Bishkek? Broad, tree-lined avenues, numerous parks and concrete squares, countless Lenins (why is he always done in that overcoat?), and the ever-present militsia (police)-put another way, Kyrgyzstan’s Almaty. If pushed though, traditional Kyrgyz hat donning men and relatively lower prices are discernible differences.
ビシュケクは、並木道が碁盤の目のように広がり、その中に公園やソ連時代の広場やモニュメントが散らばり、警察官がやたらと多い街…つまり、アルマトイとそれほど変わらない。あえて違いを挙げるとすれば、キルギス帽をかぶった人がいることと、物価が比較的安いことくらい。
Like so many other backpackers we decided to lodge at Bishkek’s word-of-mouth favourite, “Nomad’s Home“. Since the place is overflowing with backpackers traveling Central Asia, it is a great place to exchange information. Many of them come here simply because visas for surrounding countries must be obtained here. And for us it was no different-with Dan’s Kyrgyz visa extension, Uzbekistan visa application, and preparations for applying for an Iranian visa, we ended up spending a week here.
ビシュケクではバックバッカーご用達の宿、「Nomad’s Home(遊牧民の家)」に泊まった。ここでは中央アジアを旅するパッカーがたくさん集まるので、旅の情報もたくさん集まる。キルギスタンから隣国（カザフスタン、タジキスタン、ウズベキスタン、中国など）に行く予定のパッカーが多いので、みんなビザ申請に忙しい。中央アジア諸国のビザは取得までに時間がかかるので、「ビザのためだけにビシュケクにいる」という人も少なくない。私達も、ダンのキルギスタンビザの延長、次に行くウズベキスタンとイランのビザの手配、それだけのために1週間もビシュケクで過ごすことに。
But by staying at Nomad’s and being able to meet so many other travelers, including 19-year-old, world traveler Japanese Ike, a 4-year globe-trotting, motorcycle-riding Canadian, a paragliding, Pakistan-resident American, and a trump-loving Swiss who came via Afghanistan, we enjoyed our stay.
この宿では、若干19歳の世界一周バックパッカー池ちゃんをはじめ、色々な国の旅行者との出会いがあって、とても楽しかった。4年間バイクで世界を旅行しているカナダ人、パキスタンに住むパラグライダー好きアメリカ人、アフガニスタンも旅した、トランプゲーム「大富豪」が大好きなスイス人等々…。
And so after completing all of our visa arrangements, the sights of Issyk-Kol Lake beckoned.
