We arrived at Taraz, a small city close to the Kyrgyz border by a large, hot, and sweaty public bus from Shymkent.
キルギスタンの国境に近い街タラズには、シムケントから大型バスで到着。
Actually, we were not planning on staying in Taraz, but were initially thinking of taking a train direct to Bishkek from Shymkent. Problem was that upon looking carefully at the map we realized that the train route crosses the border with Kyrgyzstan not once but twice. And that doesn’t work well with a single-entry visa. Therefore, we decided to stop in Taraz and head to Bishkek by minibus the next day.
元々、タラズに来る予定はなくて、シムケントからキルギスタンの首都ビシュケクまで直接電車で行くつもりだった。でも地図をよくよく見てみると、この線路がビシュケクに到達する前にカザフスタン-キルギスタン国境を2回通過することに気づいた。我々のキルギスビザはシングル（入国回数1回）なので、その電車に乗るとビシュケクまで行けなくなってしまう。ということで、一旦タラズまで行って、そこからビシュケクに行くしかないね、ということになったわけです。
Short of looking for our hotel, we didn’t take in too much of Taraz, but to be perfectly honest there didn’t seem to be much to take in anyway, and so we don’t really have anything to say. Can report that the Soviet hangover Hotel Taraz was good, though.
タラズは単なる通過点だったので、バスターミナルとホテル周辺しか見てません。なので特にコメントはなし。ただ、私たちが泊まった「ホテルタラズ」は、ソ連時代の遺物とも言える、なかなか味のあるホテルでした。
