Agra is where the famous Taj Mahal is, and so we decided to take a day-trip tour there. Agra takes about 4 hours one way by bus from Delhi, but we were glad we took a day trip because Agra is no place to stay: it is very dirty, polluted, and plagued by hordes of touts. A day trip is a nice and easy way of seeing the Taj without all the hassle.
アーグラと言えばタージ・マハールがある場所だ。我々はアーグラ1日ツアーに参加することにした。デリーからアーグラまでは片道約4時間もかかるが、このツアーに参加したのは本当に良かった。アーグラの街は汚く、汚染もひどく、客引きの数としつこさはインドNo．1と言える。こんな街には到底泊まれないので、ツアー参加はてっとり早く快適にタージ・マハールを観光できるいい方法だった。
Actually, the day tour we took was via the Delhi Tourism and Development Corporation (a government company) and took in not only the Taj, but also the 400 year-old Agra Fort and the Tomb of Akbar. All this for 980 Rupees plus some stale breakfast and tea. Not bad. Unfortunately, Dan had the flu and couldn’t thoroughly enjoy the trip.
実際に、参加したツアーの催行者は国営のデリー観光開発会社（Delhi Tourism and Development Corporation）で、このツアーには、タージ・マハールだけではなく、400年前に造られたアグラ城塞やアクバル廟も含まれていた。これに朝食（不味いけど）と午後のティータイムが付いて一人980ルピーは悪くない。残念ながら、ダンは風邪気味だったので、ツアーを十分楽しめなかったようだ。

But whatever your condition, the Taj Mahal really is magnificent and a thousand times better in person. We could try and explain it here, but it would really be pointless. Go see it.
しかし、どんなに体調が悪くても、タージ・マハールは素晴らしい。ここでその素晴らしさを説明しようと思えば出来るのかもしれないが、こればっかりは百分は一見に如かず。機会があれば是非足を運んでもらいたい。

The Tomb of Akbar is also a sight to see, but in 40 degree plus heat, it was also quite a tough slog. The fort though is last on the list and by this time everyone is pretty pooped. You have to ask yourself on these kinds of tours whether the entry fee for the fort (like 450 Rupees) is worth it.
アクバル廟もなかなか見応えがあったが、この日も40度以上の猛暑だったので、体力的にきつかった。この日最後の訪れた名所がアーグラ城塞だったが、この頃にはもう全員が暑さのため疲れきっていた。こういったツアーに参加した場合、入場料（450ルピー）を払ってまで城塞の中に入るべきか、自問自答しなければならない。
Anyway, with Agra done we returned to Delhi for a night’s rest before taking off for Amritsar, near the border with Pakistan.
兎にも角にも、こうしてアーグラ観光も終了し、夜デリーに戻ってきた。そしてその翌日にはパキスタン国境に程近いアムリトサルに向かった。
